Jeannine Campbell
PRICE – Jeannine Clark Campbell, age 72, passed on Feb. 17, 2003 in Price.
She was born March 24, 1930 in Fairview, to Leo and Minnie O’Leary Clark. She married C. Calvin Campbell Dec. 1, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple.
She grew up in Spring Canyon and Salt Lake City. Jeannine was a consummate pianist, instilling a love of music in her family and innumerable piano students. She worked beside her sweetheart for over 50 years in the family business, the Campbell Company. As an active member of the LDS Church, she served in numerous callings, most notably as ward and stake organist. She was a skilled homemaker, seamstress and chef. Her greatest love was her family.
She is survived by husband, Calvin, of Price; children, Paul (Angela) Campbell, Florida; Dan (Kristy) Campbell, Pleasant Grove; Robert Campbell, Tremonton; Joni (Richard) Olson, Oregon; Rick (Amy) Campbell of Price; Jeff (Tami) Campbell, Price; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Paul Clark, East Carbon. She was preceded in death by her sweet daughter, Denise; sister, Oma Strong.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 22, 11 a.m. in the Price North LDS Stake Center, located at 400 North 100 East. Friends may call Friday evening, 7 to 9 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Cliffview Cemetery in Price.
Esther Shafer
HELPER – Esther Helen Merz Shafer, age 86, passed away Feb. 17, 2003 in Provo.
She was born Nov. 5, 1916 in Perry, Iowa to Matthew and Myrtle Redshaw Merz. Married Earl M. Shafer Dec. 24. 1935 in Monticello. He died Aug. 8, 2002.
Member of the LDS Church. Longtime resident of Helper. Esther enjoyed sewing, gardening and painting. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by daughters, Janet Baer, Vancouver, Wash.; Janice Whipple, Price; son, Earl (Melva) Shafer, Salt Lake City; sisters, Alice, Babe, Dorothy, Betty, Marge, Carolyn and Nadine; brother, Robert; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; son, Robert Dean Shafer; sons-in-law, Bruce Baer and Ron Whipple; twin sister, Ethel; sister, Clara; and brother, Herbert.
Funeral service Friday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m., Helper LDS Stake Center. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Leila V. Bunderson Black
HUNTINGTON-Leila V. Bunderson Black, age 88, passed away Feb. 24, 2003 in Ferron. She was born May 30, 1914 in Emery to Roy and Hessie Lee Bunderson. She married LaVar M. Black June 8, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple.
She attended Snow College and Brigham Young Academy. She taught school in Carbon and Emery counties for about 20 years, after which she and her husband served a mission in the Texas South Mission and worked in the Manti LDS Temple. As a active member of the LDS Church she served in numerous callings and was especially fond of genealogy work. She also helped raise many foster children.
Leila is survived by her son Daniel LaVar (Dorothy) Black of Huntington; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Mack Bunderson and sisters Alice Truman and Grace Jensen. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter DeAnn Jensen.
Funeral services will be held Thurs. Feb. 27, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the Huntington Stake Center where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Huntington Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. The family wishes to thank Emery County Care and Rehab for their kindness and compassion.
Carolyn C. Mabrito
Oh Sugar!
HELPER/SALT LAKE CITY-Carolyn Corsetti Mabrito, 86, passed away Feb. 21, 2003. Born Aug. 8, 1916 in Dawson, N.M. to Antonio and Nicolena Corsetti. She married John (DiVetti) Mabrito Aug. 8, 1933, and they established Star Music Company. “Carey” was an avid golfer, a fun bowler, a bridge player and a dedicated Pink Lady Volunteer at Castle View Hospital. She was a devout Catholic and had a special devotion to St. Anthony and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
She is survived by her son, John Brent Mabrito, Helper, her daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Glenn Stastny, Salt Lake City, three grandsons, John Stastny, Mesquite, Nev., James Stastny, San Bernardino, Calif., and Ensign Joseph Stastny, US Naval Base, Yokosuka, Japan. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren; her sister, Virginia Saccomanno, Grand Junction, Colo.; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Corsetti, Camarillo, Calif. Preceded in death by her husband, John, her sister Anna Rose Pessetto, and her borhter Sammy Corsetti.
A special thanks to all the special staff at Highland Care Center. Also a special thanks to Salt Lake County Aging Services.
A visitation will be held Feb. 27, 2003 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, from 6-7 p.m. with a vigil to follow at 7 p.m.

Ona Tochi
PRICE-Ona Mae Fletcher Tochi, age 78, passed away Feb. 24, 2003 in Price. She was born Sept. 11, 1924 in Spring Canyon, Utah to George and Bessie Boren Fletcher. Married Jim Watson, later divorced.
Ona worked a number of years for Atomic Energy in Los Angeles, Calif. prior to moving back to Utah in 1970. She also worked for Carbon Hospital and later at South Eastern Utah Association of Government.
Married John Tochi, June 24, 1972 in Price.
Served as Lady of Elks President in 1993 and 1994. She loved to travel and enjoyed being a hostess for family functions. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survived by her husband, John Tochi; brother, George (Mary) Fletcher; step-daughters, Linda (Byron) Allred; Charlotte (Rick) Davis; Becky (Gary) Kloepfer; eight grandchilren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, step-father, Joe Bonto; son, Bob Watson; and grandson Jake Watson.
Funeral service, Feb. 28, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.

Josephine Slopanskey
HELPER/NEW MEXICO – Josephine Slopanskey, age 94, passed away Feb. 20, 2003 in Albuquerque, N.M.
She was born June 26, 1908 in Cuba, N.M. to Thomas and Estefanita Rodriguez Garcia. She married Edward “Doc” Slopanskey, who died Oct. 2 1986. Josephine was a former long time resident of Helper.
She is survived by: brother Felix (Dorothy) Garcia, Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Gloria (Jeff) Cook, Georgia (Terry) Dye; nephew, Ruben (Eva) Moreno.
Funeral Mass will be held Tues. Feb. 25, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
