The Boy Scouts of America have been serving communities across the United States since Feb. 8, 1910. The purpose of the scouting program is to provide an educational opportunity for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. They learn many skills such as cooking, how to tie different kinds of knots, survival and camping skills, CPR, swimming and more. They also make sure to have plenty of fun activities such as sawing contests, and sports such as blind man’s soccer.
And of course, the scouts are most well known for their care of our nation’s flag. Putting them up and taking them down on holidays, even retiring them when the need arises. These boys and young men truly are a service to each community in which they participate.
