On March 1, the Buckhorn District honored scouts at their annual Eagle Scout Banquet. The banquet showcased all scouts who earned the rank of Eagle Scout during 2002 and also awarded three special recognitions.
The banquet began at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome by Robert Blackburn and the flag ceremony by the Huntington Stake Eagle Scouts. A trumpet duet of “The Star Spangled Banner” was then performed by Jacob Powell and Bruce Clement. Kameron Tracy Addley offered an invocation and blessing upon the food. The dinner was catered by the De’Ja’Vu restaurant of Huntington.
While guests were finishing dessert, the special guest speaker was introduced. Larry Echohawk, a lawyer and former attorney general of Idaho, spoke to the young men and their parents about the importance of character and values in life. He told them many stories of how the skills and values taught in scouting have helped him in his life and encouraged the young men to learn all that they could so that one day they could have the “power to change” things in their life and in the lives of others for the better. After Professor Echohawk was done speaking, the special recognitions were awarded. First, Thomas Wakefield received a lifetime scouting award. He has been an eagle scout since 1945. He was unable to attend the ceremony, so his brother, Wells Wakefield, accepted the award for Thomas. The other two recognitions were to organizations that had significantly contributed to providing projects for the scouts. The recipients were: Cleveland City and the US Forest Service, John Healy accepted the award.
Danna Gray and Robert Blackburn then presented the eagle scouts. They were awarded with a nice plaque that could either stand or be a wall hanging, and an American flag. The flags were presented by the Elks BPOE 1550, Dan Johnson and Joe Lopez. The honorees were: Kameron Tracy Addley, Logan George DeBry, Jeffrey Delyle Larsen, Garrett Lyle DeBry, Thomas M.
