Governor Michael O. Leavitt has appointed Sam Quigley to the Utah Board of Oil, Gas and Mining. Quigley, a fourth generation Utah miner, is Vice President of Operations for Andelex Rescources, Inc. Quigley replaces Elise Erler whose term of appointment to the board expired March 1.
Quigley also serves on the board of the Carbon County Recreation and Transportation Special Service District, Board of Trustees of the Castleview Hospital, Advisory Board for the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum, and has served on the Board of the Utah Geological Survey. He is also a member of the Utah Mining Association and the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute.
“Sam Quigley is an outstanding addition to the board,” said Division of Oil, Gas and Mining Director Lowell Braxton. “He comes to us with an extremely broad background in underground coal mining and his more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry will add immeasurably to the expertise of the board.”
Quigley also received his bachelor of science degree in geology from the University of Utah in 1972 and is a resident of Price.
The Board of Oil, Gas and Mining is a quasi-judicial forum for mineral and energy resources policy and regulatory issues. Each member of the board brings with them a particular expertise in mining, oil and gas, environmental protection, royalty matters or geology.
