Matthew Scovill
HUNTINGTON – Matthew Scovill, age 27, died March 23, 2003.
He was born Feb. 28, 1976 to Neal and Diana Scovill.
Matthew graduated from Emery High School. He worked for Nielson Construction for the past nine years. Matthew enjoyed camping.
He is survived by parents; brother, Don (Jennifer) Scovill; sister, Layna (Don) Johnson; grandfather, Thomas Reed Livingston; nieces and nephew, Misty, Misha, Kylie and Josh. Preceded in death by three grandparents.
He was greatly loved and will be missed and remembered always.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 26 at 11 a.m., at the Huntington LDS Third Ward building under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Family met one hour prior to the services at the ward chapel. Interment in the Huntington City Cemetery.
James Orson Murray
ELMO-Our beloved father, grandfather and friend, James Orson Murray, passed away on Friday March 28, 2003, at the age of 90 from causes incident to age. He was born in Drake, McHenry County, North Dakota on Oct. 15, 1912 to Hugh Marshall Murray and Sarah Caroline Peterson. He was raised near Lambert, Mont. and lived most of his adult life in Dove Creek, Colo. He married Mary Alice McCabe on June 28, 1941 in Aztec, N.M. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on April 2, 1954. James served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a surgical technician. James worked for 25 years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an office manager. He was an avid genealogist. He enjoyed collecting, cutting and making things from rocks. He also enjoyed small engine repair, fishing, hunting, construction and farming. He was very capable at anything he chose to do. His greatest joy in life was his family and church. He was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for many years as a temple ordinance worker in the Manti Temple.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Dick, five brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his children: James Dale (Ruth) Murray of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Mary (Jerel) Lofley, Elmo, Utah; daughter-in-law, Sandra (Bill) Bacon of Mt. Home, Idaho; brother-in-law, Jime (Rose) McCabe of Farmington, N.M.; sister-in-law, Marjorie Murray of Savage, Mont; also 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call for a visititation at the Elmo Ward Chapel, April 1, 2003, from 9:30-10:40 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in the Elmo City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary, Price.
Mary Jewkes Peterson
FERRON-Mary Jewkes Peterson, age 90, passed on to a better life, March 28, 2003 in Ferron. She was born Feb. 9, 1913 to Alma Gardner Jr. and Emeline Cox Jewkes in Orangeville, Utah. She married Forrest Peterson, Dec. 23, 1931 in the Manti LDS Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held numerous positions, as Relief Society President and as a missionary with her husband to the New Zealand Mission, where they learned to love the Maori people. Together, they also served in the Manti Temple for many years.
She was a master at all she did. Her award winning handiwork was outstanding. She loved gardening and canned everything she could, letting nothing go to waste. She is survived by her children; Charlane and Kean Luke of Orangeville, Richard and Dixie Peterson and Edward and Erma Peterson of Bountiful and Ronald and Kathy Peterson of Vacaville, Calif., 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Hue and Carol Jewkes of Sandy, Kay and Dora Dean Jewkes of Green River, and Tom and Wilma Jewkes of St. George and sister-in-law, Verle Jewkes of Sandy. Preceded in death by her husband, three grandsons, one great-grandson, three sisters and six brothers. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family appreciates the love and care given by Emery County Care and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the Castle Dale Stake Center where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Berniece H. Elder Winters
CASTLE DALE, Berniece H. Elder Winters, Aunt B, age 89, passed away March 29, 2003 at her home with her family in Castle Dale. Born Sept. 22, 1913 in Lawrence, the oldest daughter of Louritz and Christina Hansen. She married Laren Elder, who preceded her in death. To everyone she was lovingly known as “Aunt B.” She treasured her family dearly. Her other loves were going to Cedar Mountain, the riding club, her 500 card club, the Jazz and a good cup of coffee. She enjoyed senior citizens Tuesday dinner and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She did beautiful handwork. She served many years as a mutual leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors are her sisters, Merlin (LaMar) Bishop, Henrietta (Darold) Hansen, sister-in-law Arlene Hansen, brother-in-law Que Winters, numerous nieces and nephews and a dear friend Margaret Magnuson. She was preceded in death by her brother Mac Hansen, sisters Oral Miles, LaVora Kofford, Zelda Collins and Shirley Robertson.
Funeral services will be Wed. April 2, at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center with a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Karen Keser
HUNTINGTON – Karen Sue Avery Keser, age 49, passed away March 28, 2003 in Ferron.
She was born Feb. 1, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo., to George and Kathleen Rankin Avery. Married Robert Paul Keser, later divorced. Married Keith Hyatt in Orangeville. He died June 10, 1991.
Karen was a longtime resident of Emery County and a member of the LDS Church. She was a caring person who was always there to help anyone in need. She enjoyed the outdoors and most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Paul (Patricia) Keser, Santa Maria, Calif.; Nathan Keser, Castle Dale; Owen Price, Price; mother, Barbara Avery, Placerville, Calif.; sisters, Dixie and Alanna; six loving grandchildren, Paciance, Darren, Brooke, Shane, Kitiara and Christopher. Preceded in death by father; brothers, Richard and Gordon Avery.
Funeral service Wednesday, April 2, 11 a.m., in the Huntington LDS 3rd Ward Chapel located on Main Street. Family will be at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Orangeville City cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Rose Vuksinick
SPRING GLEN – Rose M. Guide Vuksinick, age 93, passed away March 28, 2003 in Ferron.
Born Feb. 28, 1910 in South Canon, Colo., to John and Anna Gertrude Zemlock Guide. Married Martin Albert Vuksinick Dec. 10, 1926 in Price. He died April 16, 1972.
Member of the Catholic Church and St. Anthony Altar Society. Member SNPJ Lodge 689 and Stella D’America Italian Lodge 77. Rose was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She shared her love of cooking with many in the Carbon County School District where she retired as a cook. Rose loved helping others and she volunteered many years at Castleview Hospital as a Pink Lady. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of dear friends.
She is survived by son, Norman L. (Arlene) Vuksinick, Castle Dale; daughters-in-law, Linda and Faye; seven loving grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Zelpha Vuksinick, Salt Lake. Preceded in death by parents; son, Martin L. Vuksinick; granddaughter, Melanie Hamann; great-grandson, Justin Wells; and brother, Frank Guide.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, April 1, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday one hour prior to services. Committal, Price City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
