Skya Johnson
GREEN RIVER – Our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and best friend to all, Skya Vaniece Adams Johnson, age 25, passed away April 8, 2003 in Green River.
She was born May 31, 1977 in Salt Lake City to Gilbert G. Adams and Niki Watts. Married Keith C. Johnson Feb. 19, 1994 in Green River.
Skya loved riding horses, dancing, camping and karate. She took great pride in making meals for others and everyone around her was more important to her than herself. She loved swimming, karaoke, doing hair and makeup for others. Skya loved to make people laugh and everyone enjoyed her friendship. There is no way to put into words how much she will be missed.
Survived by husband, Keith C. Johnson; daughters, Dallice Janae Johnson, Taylor Rae Johnson, all of Green River; mother, Niki (Dale) Beesley, Mesa, Ariz.; father, Gilbert Adams, Overton, Texas; sister, Zaneel (Jeremy) Anderson, Salt Lake City; grandmothers, Allene Spadafora, Green River; Irene Gale, Shelley, Idaho; Inez Stock, Green River; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lenard (Irene) Johnson, Green River; 14 loving nieces and nephews; 11 aunts and uncles; five brothers-in-law and many cousins and loving friends who were as close as family.
Funeral service was held April 12, Green River LDS Ward. Interment, Elgin Cemetery, Green River, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Dan Porter
EAST CARBON – Dan Crocker Porter, age 79, passed away April 12, 2003 in Salt Lake City.
Born October 8, 1923 in Grand Junction, Colo., to Leman E. and Alta Marie Crocker Porter. Married Roberta Artt Oct. 21, 1945 in Grand Junction, Colo. She died April 1, 1996.
Dan was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in East Carbon. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Member of the Masonic Lodge 55 in Grand Junction for 50 years, as well as a member of the Price Elks Lodge 1550. Retired from Carbon County Railway in 1982, where he was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen.
Survived by three sons, Dan (Elaine) Porter, Salt Lake City; Darrell (Nola) Porter, East Carbon; Mike (Mary) Porter, East Carbon; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Warren (Faye) Porter, Grand Junction, Colo.; and one sister, JoAnn Fifield, Grand Junction, Colo. Preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Elma Seller; and brother, Phillip Porter.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Christus Marion Center, Garden Terrace, and the Residence CareSource Hospice of Salt Lake City.
Memorial service Thursday, April 17, 10 a.m., Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, East Carbon. Additional Masonic service by Grand Junction Masonic Lodge 55 F&AM at Orchard Mesa Cemetery, located at 269 26 1/4 Road in Grand Junction at 3 p.m., under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Sid Lancaster
CLEVELAND-Clarence Sidney Lancaster, beloved husband, father and son, died April 8, 2003 in Price. Sid’s death of cancer leaves this world a colder and less friendly place.
Sid was born Dec. 7, 1946 in Ontario, Ore. to Clarence Wayne and Celia Astella Randell Lancaster. He leaves behind his wife, Sue Ann Biddinger Lancaster, as well as five children; Laura Lancaster, Eden; Alisa (Donald) Kranendonk, Kaysville; Darin (Cynthia) Lancaster, Logan; Paul (Shelly) Lancaster, Logan; and Ryan Lancaster, Cleveland. He is also survived by his parents, sister Jeanne Wood, Nyssa Ore.; father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Jeane Biddinger, Price; six grandchildren and a loving extended family.
Many people fondly remember Sid as their schoolteacher and principal over a teaching career that spanned 30 years. He is also remembered as a loving, constant father who cherished his children and grandchildren and delighted in introducing them to nature and his goofy smile. Few who saw his silly smiles will forget how he made them laugh.
Sid’s vocation was education, but his avocation was building, and he always had a project going. He used more than nails and a hammer, however. He built relationships with co-workers and friends through close attention and careful listening; he built great knowledge through pursuit of such interests as photography, gardening and cooking. And he built a lifetime of memories that will long be cherished by those family and friends who love and miss him.
Sid grew up in Nyssa, Ore. and attended Brigham Young University where he met his wife, Sue. He received his teaching degree at Eastern Oregon State University, and long remembered fondly his first teaching posts at Prineville, Ore. and Bliss, Idaho. The Lancasters were grateful to return to Utah, where Sid taught fourth and sixth grades at Huntington Elementary. After receiveing a master’s degree in administration from BYU, Sid served as principal of Huntington and Castle Dale Elementaries. He was promoted to elementary education supervisor for Emery School District, but was delighted, during the last two years, to return as a principal at Cleveland Elementary. Sid’s best work was not done behind a desk, but mingling with children, faculty, janitors and lunchroom workers.
Sid’s work in the LDS Church was also a vital part of his life. He fulfilled a mission to Taiwan and later served in such capacities as bishop.
He remains a true example of Christ’s charity and love. He was indeed select among men.
Funeral services were held April 12 at the Cleveland Ward Chapel.
Burial followed at the Price Cliffview Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Hazel Jensen
HUNTINGTON – Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Hazel Ruth Rowley Jensen, age 57, passed away April 13, 2003 in Ferron.
She was born March 14, 1946 in Price, to Charles H. and Ruth L. Lemmon Rowley. Married Richard L. Jensen April 2, 1966 in Cleveland.
Member of the LDS Church. Hazel was a longtime resident of Cleveland and Huntington, where she graduated from Emery High School. She will be dearly missed by her family and many longtime friends.
Survived by husband, Richard Jensen, Huntington; daughters, Dana Bjarnson, Mapleton; Sharon Jensen, Huntington; son, Kyle Jensen, Kaysville; two grandchildren, Ashlie and Christie Bjarnson. Preceded in death by parents.
Graveside service Wednesday, April 16, noon, Huntington City Cemetery, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
