The Emery County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue units now have the use of two new 4-wheel drive rescue vehicles. Emery County Sheriff Lamar Guymon explained that traditional ambulances are not off road vehicles, but by necessity they have been used as such in different rescue situations.
The purchase of the two rescue vehicles was made possible with a 50/50 matching grant. The vehicles are for first response and are now ready to be put into service; they have been stocked with emergency supplies and equipment. One of the vehicles will be housed at the Castle Dale Office and the other will be in Green River. They will be manned by search and rescue crews and EMTs and will be used in areas where ambulances can’t go.
Deputy Martin Wilson said the vehicles will also be on standby at large events on the desert and other places like the public lands day and motorcycle races. The vehicles have already been used even though they weren’t fully equipped at the time. Sheriff Guymon said, “We are very happy with the new vehicles it will add a much needed service to the county.”
