Track Team Heads to State

The Emery High School boy and girl’s track teams finished fifth in Region 8 track as they now prepare for the state meet this week at BYU. The Spartans are sending six girls and eight boys to the finals.
Representing the Lady Spartans at this weeks meet will be Gwen Coyne, running the 100 meters and long jumping; Jennifer Nielson, running the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, Jasha Hinkins in the long jump and the 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Hinkins, Coyne, Nielson and Ashley Conover.
Placing at the region meet were Coyne, second in the long jump with a jump of 16’3/4″, Hinkins in the long jump with a jump of 15’9″ for third, Coyne, second in the 100 at 12.98 seconds and Nielson, third in the 300 hurdles at 48.83 and the relay team at 52.7 seconds.
Representing the guys will be Curt Jensen in the high jump, Bruce Clement in the discus, Steven Malolo in the 400m, Dillon Hickok in the 300m hurdles, Louis Duke in the 100m and the 200m, Corey Montgomery in the long jump and the medley relay team of Curt Jensen, Jake Jensen, Ryan Jensen and Steve Malolo.
Placing at the region meet were Curt Jensen, first in the high jump at 5’10”, Clement, first in the discus with a throw of 128’8″, Hickok, first with a time of 41.85 seconds, Montgomery, second with a jump of 20’3″, which was his best of the year, Duke was third in both races at 11’75 and 23.77 seconds and Malolo was fourth at 55.83 seconds.
Athletes earn the opportunity of participating in the state meet by hitting qualifying times; distance or height in meets held around the state or by placing first through fourth at the region meets. Good luck Spartans, Do Well!
