Miss Orangeville Pageant
All girls living in Orangeville between the ages of 12-18 can participate in the Miss Orangeville Pageant. Utahns Against Hunger
Utahns Against Hunger are encouraging home gardeners to support the annual Grow a Row. By growing an extra row of vegetables to donate to your local food pantry, home gardeners can help provide fresh nutritious produce to families experiencing economic difficulties and seeking help at their local food bank. The food bank in Emery County is located at 40 South Center in Castle Dale.
Relay for Life
The Relay for Life committee is looking for individuals and businesses who would like to participate in the annual fund raiser for cancer research on July 11-12. Emergency Livestock Feed Broadcast
The USDA recently announced an emergency livestock feed assistance program which will distribute surplus non-fat dry milk (NDM) to producers of beef cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats in eight Western states. Utah State University Extension is producing a satellite teleconference to explain how the milk will be distributed to producers, and to suggest how the milk might be used in livestock feeding programs. The broadcast will air on Thursday, May 22 from 1 – 2 p.m., and can be viewed at the USU Extension office in the Emery CountyCourthouse. The teleconference will also discuss recent developments that will make it easier for farmers and ranchers to exchange the NDM for other, more familiar livestock feeds. Stockshow Entries Due
Entries for the Southeastern Utah Jr. Livestock Show are due at the Emery County Extension Office no later than June 9. No late entries will be accepted. Bureau of Reclamation Open House
The Bureau of Reclamation’s Provo Office will hold an open house on June 6 between 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The purpose of the open house is to help commemorate the agency’s centennial. Bio-tech Academy for Teens
Scheduled for July 14-18 on the Utah State campus, the academy is open to high school students entering the 11th and 12th grades in the 2003-04 school year. Participants work side-by-side with faculty mentors on a variety of hands-on projects, stay in campus housing and eat in campus dining halls during the five-day camp. Students may select a specific area of interest, choosing from fields such as biology, chemistry, food and nutrition sciences, biological and envoiromental engineering, plant and soil science, and animal, dairy and veterinary sciences. This new extension does not grant additional weeks for individuals who have exhausted their Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation eligibility.
