Jerald Lee Barton
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jerald Lee Barton, completed his mission on earth June 2, 2003, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 27, 1923 in Ferron to Owen H. and Emma Z. Barton. He was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Mary Karen Sitterud in the Manti Temple on Jan. 23, 1947. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years together and their union was blessed with three sons whom they taught to work, love and share their talents with others.
Jerald worked hard as a farmer and dairyman, yet found time for traveling and serving a mission with his wife. He filled many church callings, made many friends and supported his family in their endeavors. He loved fishing with his family, shopping for a deal, any kind of food and a good laugh. He lived by the motto “If a little is good, a lot is better.”
He was an active member of the LDS church. He loved to read the Book of Mormon and doing missionary work. He served in many church callings and especially enjoyed his service as stake mission president and temple worker.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons Steven J. (Joy), Elmo, Roger O. (Shelley), Ferron, Brent L. (Ilene), Alpine; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister Una Jensen, Castle Dale and brothers Dean (Arlene), Draper, and Kent (Pat), Visalia, Calif. Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and an infant granddaughter.
Services were held 11 a.m June 6 at the Ferron Stake Center. A viewing was held June 5 at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and one hour prior to the service.
Beth Ann Gomez
Our Special Angel
DELTA, COLO/PRICE-Our special angel passed away June 6, 2003 in Delta, Colo. At her side was her loving husband, Rick. Beth Ann was born to Jack and LaPreal Sanderson Birch on April 24, 1955 in Price. Graduated from Carbon High School in 1973. On Dec. 17, 1976, Beth Ann married the love of her life, Richard Gomez in Price. From that day forward the two were inseparable. They had a love for one another that few people ever attain.
Beth Ann was truly an inspiration to all those who suffer with pain and had a love for life seldom seen today. She was the little engine who would never give up. Her courage and winning attitude will leave an impact on all who knew and loved her. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, aunt and friend that anyone could ever ask for. Her kind spirit and generosity touched us all. We are all better because she was part of our lives.
Beth Ann loved to play with her grandchildren, go camping with her husband, sew and needlepoint for family members, bowl, golf, collect dolls and garden in her yard. She also loved to help family members move whether it was across town or to the other side of the state. We know she is moving clouds around heaven right now.
Beth is survived by her loving husband, Rick; two daughters Shalynn (Tony) Kerr, Talia Fuller; two grandchildren Brittney and Dakota Kerr; mother and father, Jack and LaPreal Birch; brothers and sisters, Gene (Karen) Birch, David (Marie) Birch, Jimmy (Vickie) Birch, Todd (Karen) Davis, Lynn (Jim) Alderson and 18 nieces and nephews. All will miss her and love her forever. She also leaves behind her special dog Buffy and devoted in-laws, Fern Wilkerson and Ben (LouAnn) Gomez Jr. Beth Ann was preceded in death by brother Jack Birch Jr. and Grandma and Grandpa Tollis.
Rest in peace our beloved angel. Until we meet again, we will never forget you and will love you forever. You remain in our hearts and will always be our Buf Ann.
Funeral service, June 11 at noon, Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Angelo Welch
HELPER- Angelo Welch, 93, died June 6, 2003 at his home in Helper.
Born July 12, 1909 in Crested Butte, Colo. to Mike and Marie Henneqin Welch. Married Grace Marie Magliocco, Oct. 27, 1934 in the old St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper. Angelo was an active member of St. Anthony Parish, where he was a Lector, chairman and co-chairman for D.D.D. and past president of the Parish Council. Member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight and also served as Past Grand Knight from 1977-87. He received the Father McGivney Top Proposer Award and was also awarded for his interest and organization of the C.C.D. program as St. Anthony’s. Angelo served as an usher, recorded the parish contributions, headed many Catholic Carnivals and was the ticket chairman for many years. In 1959, he received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope John XXII for his outstanding service.
Angelo served his community as a four year councilman for Helper City and president of the Kiawanis Club. He worked 50 years on the railroad and 39 of those years with the Utah Railway.
Angelo enjoyed gardening and caring for his roses. He was a cartoon artist and he loved to tease.
Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Grace Welch; daughters, Joyce Welch; Phyllis (Joe) Schaffeld; four grandchildren, Grace Lial, Karl Joe Angelo Schaffeld, Tina MacDowell, Kathy Ross; four great-grandchildren, Trevor, Savanna, Cassidy Lial, Sabrina MacDowell; brother and sister, William and Pearl Welch, both of California; brother Ulysus Welch, Canon City, Colo; many loving nieces and nephews; brothers-in-laws, Mike and Frank Magliocco; sister in law, Mary Magliocco.
Preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother and on brother-in-law. Funeral Mass, Wed. June 11, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Vigil service, Tues. evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony on Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Tassia Vlamakis
“Yia Yia”
HELPER-Our sweet loving mother, sister, yia yia, friend and teacher, Tassia Giannarakis Vlamakis, 86, passed on quietly to a better place, June 8, 2003 in Price.
Born Oct. 21, 1916 in Armenos, Crete. Tassia came to America in December of 1949, where she married George Vlamakis. He died in December 1963.
Tassia learned to be very independent. She became a U.S. citizen, learned how to drive a car, and understand the American way, all of which she was very proud. She was a devoted member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Price.
Yia Yia will always be remembered for her kind spirit, generous nature, her love for everyone she met, and her wonderful cooking and garden. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love she had for her family.
Survived by her sons, Mike (Dorothy) Vlamakis, Salt Lake City, Gabriel (Sherrie) Vlamakis, Helper; grandchildren, Kathy, Michael, Stephen and Christopher; and family members in Crete.
Tassia’s family wished to extend a special thanks to Parkdale Care Center for their loving care. Tassia will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Douglas Bradstreet
HELPER-The world lost a great father, son, brother, friend and loyal Vietnam veteran on June 6, 2003 in Helper. Douglas Jed Bradstreet, age 57, passed away at his home in Helper. He was born Nov. 4, 1945 to Eugene B. and Ines Ramsey Bradstreet in Dighton, Kan. Married Linda Garr, Oct. 8, 1977 in Tacoma, Wash. Later divorced.
Doug graduated from Grand County High School in Moab in 1964. He enlisted in the USMC where he served two tours in Vietnam, for that he received two purple hearts and a silver star, among others.
Doug loved to entertain and have a good time. He loved camping, barbecuing and running rapids on the Green River.
Survived by his three children, Jody, Tacoma Wash.; Lindy, Reno, Nev.; Jason, Price; his mother Ines Scott, Katy Texas; sisters, Ina Jeanne Ackerman and Holly Crofts, both of Galveston, Texas, ClaireAnna Quigg, Houston, Texas; brother David Bradstreet, Houston, Texas; his buddy Smedley Butler and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Eugene, infant son, Eugene Earl and sister Peggy.
