Step Back in Time
The Emery County Historical Society presents Step Back in Time, on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. The Emery County Community Theater will present an old time radio broadcast enactment of Fibber McGee, Molly and the Gang. There will also be a trip down memory lane with a USO show and a panel of local veterans who will tell of their experiences.
Know Before You Go
Utah law states that children from 8-15 must be certified to operate an OHV on public lands. Know Before You Go is Utah’s off-highway vehicle class. It will be held July 8 at 7 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale. Traveling Replica of Vietnam Wall
A 240 foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be available for the public to experience July 25-27 at Wasatch Lawn South Valley, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton. The exhibit is free and is open 24 hours. The name of 58,219 men and women who died or are Missing in Action are inscribed on the polished black face of the memorial.
Car Seat Safety Check
A car seat safety check will be held at Buggy Bargains in Huntington on June 26 from 3-6 p.m. There will also be fingerprinting, DNA and pictures available for child safety.

Labor Day Telethon Auditions
Auditions are being held for the 2003 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and must provide their own music. Mormon Short Story Contest
Sunstone Education Foundation announces the 2003 Brookie and D.K. Brown Memorial Fiction Contest, with the entry deadline extended from June 30 to July 31. Categories are short stories (under 6,000 words) and short-short stories (under 1,500). Entries must in some way relate to Latter-day Saints experience, theology or worldview. Pioneer Story Time
Pioneer Museum will be holding a “Pioneer Story Time” each Friday in June at 10 a.m. for children ages four through nine. Children will experience what it was like to be a child during the pioneer times.
Utah Festival Opera

Gallery needs Stories
The gallery in the Joseph F. Smith building, now under construction, needs stories about the educational heritage of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some ideas for stories include, but are not limited to the following: traditions of faith and learning, foundations of education in the restored gospel, early schools in Zion, education in the family and extending learning to all the world. Summer Science

Educational Opportunities
The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. The Educational Opportunity Center is located in the College Center – Room 213. Feel free to walk in without an appointment or call Shawnee at 613-5243. During the summer, the center will be closed on Fridays.
Veterans Affairs Workshop
The Utah Division of Veterans Affairs is hosting a workshop for veterans interested in obtaining employment with the federal government. Advance registration is required. Community Theater
For all community minded citizens of Emery County over the age of 18…If you are interested in becoming involved in community theater, the ECT will hold its first annual meeting for a Board of Trustees. This board will be responsible for electing the Board of Directors and having input in future productions. The annual dues will be due for each voting member. The meeting will be held in the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale on June 19 at 7 p.m.
Grants for Families of Utah’s Guard and Reserves
A collaboration of Utah United Ways launched the Homefront Response last month to help Utah’s military families cope with the personal and financial burdens of U.S. war efforts. “This Land Is Your Land” The Emery County Fair Opens celebrating the 100th birthday of the forest service. Historic exhibits at the Museum of the San Rafael; Smokey visits the kid, Aug. 5; retired employees honored at the fair parade Aug. 9.

Museum of the San Rafael Exhibit
“Key Ingredients: America by Food” an exhibit from the Smithsonian Art Institution Traveling Exhibition Service is opening at the Museum of the San Rafael May 30 and will be on exhibit until June 27. Pioneer Traditions and Cowboy Tales will be June 24 at 7 p.m. All programs will feature a taster’s table. Each Friday at 10 a.m. there will be a pioneer story time at the Pioneer Museum for children ages 4-9.
Driver License Office
Due to a statewide budget shortfall we received instructions to close the Castle Dale office. This directive effects all satelite offices in the state. After July 1 service should resume in the Castle Dale area. The Price office, located at 940 South Carbon Avenue is open Mon.-Fri. Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The office is open during lunch, and customers are requested to be in the office one hour before closing. For more information call 637-6180.

Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge. It will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. There will be on site child care available with prior notice.
