MJR GIS Services is a sole proprietorship owned and operated by Mick Robinson in Orangeville. The company mission is to provide fast and reliable technical assistance and GIS data to government entities, private businesses, and private individuals. The business is run out of Robinson’s home to keep overhead costs down.
The Price SBDC helped Robinson purchase needed software, a plotter, a computer with enough processing capability to run GIS programs and other equipment. Speaking of the SBDC, Robinson said, “The SBDC counselors were great to work with. They really helped me learn some basic business skills to help me get my business started. I am really good at the technical aspect of my business, but without the help of the SBDC, I would not have considered everything that goes into running a successful business from marketing to the importance of cash management.”
Robinson is a graduate of ITT Technical Institute. He earned an associate of applied science computer-aided drafting technology degree. Robinson currently works for the Emery County GIS Department. Robinson was inundated with requests for additional services not provided by the county. He formed his own business and has demand for his business from all over the state of Utah. Without help from the SBDC, Robinson would not have started his business.
