Castle Dale Pool
The pool will be closed Friday and Saturday, July 4-5. Have a safe and fun weekend. Lap swim hours are Tues. and Thurs. 5:30-6:30 a.m. and Saturdays from 7-9 a.m.

Relay for Life Luminaries
Luminaries will be available for the Relay for Life. They can be purchased in the Boyd’s Pharmacy building in Castle Dale July 1-3. The Relay for Life walk will be July 11-12 at the Emery High School track.

Veteran, Widows and Dependents
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service to veterans. The VFW service officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on July 30.
Huntington Heritage Days
Free Ice Cream Social and Dessert Contest will begin at 7 p.m. at the City Park pavillion. Bring a dessert to share and vie for a prize. Enjoy a treat and be entertained by the finals of the Huntington Idol Contest. Top off the Independence Day weekend by attending the Heritage Day patriotic fireside at the stake center on July 6 at 8 p.m. The Huntington Glee Club will perform and Jay Sitterud will be the featured speaker.

A New Resource for Parents
To help kids fill their time more productively this summer vacation, the Federal Communications Commission has created a “Parents Place” on the FCC website that will help parents and other caregivers guide children in their use of telecommunications media. The web address is www.fcc.gov/parents.
Know Before You Go
Utah law states that children from 8-15 must be certified to operate an OHV on public lands. Know Before You Go is Utah’s off-highway vehicle class. It will be held July 8 at 7 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale. Traveling Replica of Vietnam Wall
A 240 foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be available for the public to experience July 25-27 at Wasatch Lawn South Valley, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton. The exhibit is free and is open 24 hours. The names of 58,219 men and women who died or are Missing in Action are inscribed on the polished black face of the memorial.

Labor Day Telethon Auditions

Mormon Short Story Contest
Sunstone Education Foundation announces the 2003 Brookie and D.K. Brown Memorial Fiction Contest, with the entry deadline extended from June 30 to July 31. Utah Festival Opera

Summer Science

Educational Opportunities
The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. The Educational Opportunity Center is located in the College Center – Room 213. Feel free to walk in without an appointment or call Shawnee at 613-5243. During the summer, the center will be closed on Fridays.
Grants for Families of Utah’s Guard and Reserves
A collaboration of Utah United Ways launched the Homefront Response last month to help Utah’s military families cope with the personal and financial burdens of U.S. war efforts. “This Land Is Your Land” The Emery County Fair opens celebrating the 100th birthday of the forest service. Historic exhibits at the Museum of the San Rafael; Smokey visits the kid, Aug. 5; retired employees honored at the fair parade Aug. 9.

Driver License Office
Due to a statewide budget shortfall we received instructions to close the Castle Dale office. This directive effects all satelite offices in the state. After July 1 service should resume in the Castle Dale area. The Price office, located at 940 South Carbon Avenue is open Mon.-Fri. Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The office is open during lunch, and customers are requested to be in the office one hour before closing. For more information call 637-6180.

Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge.
