Soil and Water Conservation Tour
The San Rafael conservation district is sponsoring a tour of the recently completed Lawrence South Salinity Control Project. There will be a lamb fry following the tour for those attending. Meet at Huntington Park on Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. RSVP by Sept. 10 to 687-2986.
Donate School Supplies
There is a box in the lobby at Wells Fargo Bank in Castle Dale in which people can donate school supplies for the students in Emery County. The collected supplies will be given to the school district and they in turn will make the distrubution to the schools. All school supplies, including pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, and calculators will be accepted.
Huntington DUP
The Huntington DUP will host its meeting at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the Huntington DUP building.

EMT Fundraiser
Huntington, Cleveland, Elmo and Lawrence EMTs will hold a dinner and dance fund raiser Sept. 5 at Huntington City Park. Dinner will start at 7 p.m. and the dance will begin at 8:30 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for a rifle. Tickets can be purchased at High Velocity Sports, Gordon’s Nursery and Floral, BKs Stop and Shop, Country Corner in Cleveland, and Castle Service.
AIDS Conference
The nursing department at the College of Eastern Utah will be hosting an AIDS Conference Oct. 24 from 8 a.m.-Noon in the College Center Ballroom on the CEU campus. For more information contact the nursing department at 613-5262.
Utah Commission on Volunteers
The Utah Commission on Volunteers and Utah’s Promise are currently seeking out nominees for the 2003 Red Wagon Awards to be presented in the State Capitol by Lt.Gov. Olene Walker. These award recognize individual volunteers or groups who have dedicated themselves to ensuring that the youth of this state receive the Five Promises: a caring adult, a safe school, a healthy start. marketable skills and opportunities to give back. Fresh Produce to the Food Bank
Local food pantries are asking home gardeners to support the 22nd annual Share the Harvest by donating their excess fruit and produce to their local food pantries. Utahns Against Hunger and the Emergency Food Network encourage gardeners around the state to share their harvest with those in need. The local food bank is located at 40 South Center Street in Castle Dale.

Veterans’ Affairs Workshop
On Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-Noon, the Utah Division of Veterans’ Affairs will host a workshop with the Small Business Administration. The workshop will consist of information for veterans that plan on opening their own businesses or already own a small business. The workshop will be held at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center building 9, located at 550 Foothill Drive. Pre-registration will begin Sept. 1. ACT Registration
College bound high school students who want to take the ACT Assessment on the Oct. 25 national test date should register by the postmark deadline of Sept. 19. The late registration deadline is Oct. 3 and will required an additional fee. Students can get registration materials from their school counselor or register online at www.act.org.
Camp Dale DUP
The opening meeting of the Camp Dale DUP will be held at the Castle Dale Rodeo Park on Monday Sept. 8 at 1p.m. Bring a boxed lunch and come prepared to bid for a lunch. Orangeville Secondary Water
Orangeville’s secondary water will be out of the canals as of Sept. 1. The storage pond will be filled and citizens will be allowed to use the water system for watering trees, shrubs, etc. until the pond is dry. If everyone uses the water sparingly it will last for the most of September. Use the water on the same days you currently are using, except choose only either morning or evening. You have been given a window of five (5) hours three days a week to water. There is no need to water five (5) hours each day. ABSOLUTELY NO WATERING OF LAWNS WILL BE ALLOWED. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS. Sprinklers for garden use is not allowed. Water plants in garden individually and sparingly, just enough to keep plants alive. Gardens do not require as much water at this stage of the growing season. Plants will soon complete their growing cycle, so use water sparingly. If anyone waters lawns either with culinary or secondary, the secondary valve will be turned off at the first offence-No notice will be given, and will remain off until secondary water is available again in the future. No water will be available for agriculture users. We are in a drought and water is at a premium. We trust the citizens of Orangeville will cooperate in our efforts to conserve the water we have. Orangeville’s total usage of secondary water is down and the cooperation of the residents is greatly appreciated. Remember to continue to conserve water.

Wild Horse and Burro Workshop and Adoption
The BLM will host a wild horse and burro adoption where approximately 75 wilds horses and 15 burros will be presented to the public for adoption. The adoption will be held Sept. 20 and the workshop will be held Sept. 14-19. Both events will be held at the Deseret Peak Complex, 2930 West Highway 112 in Tooele.
Angels Have Wheels
All Medicare recipients should now be aware that they may be eligible to receive and electric wheelchair or power scooter, paid for by Medicare, if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a manual wheelchair. Hungry or Thirsty
The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary of Ferron will again be running the west concession stand at Ferron Peach Days Horse races on Sept. 6. Stop by and support our nonprofit organizations. Proceeds of our efforts go to community and civic projects such as girls state, boys state, Emery Clause, personal emergency fund for residents of our communities, and numerous other causes for our area’s children and youth. Come to Peach Days and try one of our tasty hamburgers with the secret sauce.
Melon Days Softball Tournament

American Legion Veterans, Widows and Dependants
A field service officer from the American Legion Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 30. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to qualify for assistance.
Peace Officers 10K Run
The Utah Peace Officers Association is sponsoring a Fallen Officers 10K run on Sept. 13 at 7 a.m. in Lehi at Wines Park (Center Street and 500 North). The public is welcome to run and show your support for law enforcement officers in Utah who have paid the ultimate price to protect Utah citizens. Recreation Center Open Night
Open nights at the Emery County Recreation Center will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 p.m. Open night will begin Sept. 2. There will be basketball, fooseball, table tennis, darts, board games, etc. For more information, please call Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.
Statewide Wilderness Legislation
The Emery County Board of Commissioners is seeking your input. The Utah Associations of Counties is proposing to draft statewide wilderness legislation. Should Emery County actively join in the dialogue? Veterans of Foreign Wars
A field service officer from the VFW will be in your area to assist you in understanding an applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This officer will be in the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 11.
AWANA
AWANA club for children ages three through sixth grade will begin Sept. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Desert Edge Christian Chapel, 500 South Main in Huntington. There will be Bible lessons, games, treats and fun.
Volunteers Needed
Emery County Care and Rehab is currently looking for volunteers to perform for one hour per month, providing musical entertainment for the residents. Any instrument is welcome. Any single person or group is welcome. Any age. Please call Tracy at 384-2301.
Castle Dale Pool Fall Hours
Beginning Aug. 18, the pool will have the following hours, Aquasize: Mon. – Fri. 8:15 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.; Open Swim: Mon. 4-7 p.m. and Sat. 12-7 p.m.; Family Night: Mon. 7-9 p.m. The will still be open for rentals, scout groups, etc. Please call 381-5298 if you wish to reserve the pool.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE
The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four-hour defensive driving course for individuals in the Price area. The course will take place on Sept. 27, 2003 at the College of Eastern Utah College Center, from 8:00 a.m.-noon. The four-hour course consists of classroom instruction and focuses on accident prevention, driving confidence, awareness of hazards and improving driving skills. Drivers may complete the course for a 50-point reduction from their Utah driving record, once every three years. Individuals 55 years of age and older, may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course. Registration is $35 per person, or $10 for those age 55 and over that are only seeking a reduction in their insurance rate.
