Commissioners Approve Credit Card Payments for Property Tax

By By

When the Emery County Board of Commissioners met on Sept. 2 they approved, a request by Steven Barton, county treasurer, that tax payers be allowed to meet their tax obligation by using credit cards. Barton said he would like to have this new payment option made available to tax payers for the upcoming taxes due the end of November. This new option, with instructions on how to use it, will be printed on the tax notices which will go out in the fall. Barton speculated that not that many tax payers would use the option, but he wanted to make it available and would do all of the necessary work to set it up.
A bid for the installation of a NOAA weather Station was awarded to Dean Allen Electrical.
A site sublease was approved with Nextel for the installation of their antennas on the tower. County Attorney Dave Blackwell went over the contract and it was approved by the commission. The Nextel representative also said they will be installing a tower in Emery and are also looking at a site in Green River.
Patrick Gubbins, Price field office manager for the BLM gave an update to the commission. He said the BLM is still working on the draft alternatives for the resource management plan and hopes to have the draft out by the end of September. Gubbins reported that they are a little behind schedule and the RMP should be complete by the end of 2004. He also thanked Sheriff Lamar Guymon for the work being done on the Swell by Dep. Ray Jeffs. He said a great deal of public education has been going on out there.
The BLM has also hired an assistant field manager, Fred O’Ferrell, who comes from the Montana office.
Gubbins said they will meet in early October with county officials to tour and look over portions of the Swell and look at dispersed camping spots and access issues.
Sheriff Guymon asked what the process is for road closures and who makes those decisions. Gubbins said they have been following the route designation plan and that if adjustments need to be made they will do so and to talk to him or to Tom Gnojek.
