This Lady Spartan serves up a point.

After opening on the road in an Ogden based tournament and finishing second, the Lady Spartans returned to Spartan Center and gave the crowd a thrill as they defeated San Juan in four sets, 30-28,22-25,25-10, and 25-17.
In Ogden, the Spartans defeated Hillcrest, a 5-A school, 25-21 and 25-13 to open the season. They then defeated another 5-A school, Copper Hills, 25-17 and 25-21. Emery also defeated 4-A schools, the Logan Grizzlies, 25-20 and 25-15; Judge Memorial 25-16, 19-25 and 25-22 and then Logan again 25-21 and 25-21. Weber High defeated Emery in the championship game 25-18 and 25-13. The Spartans went 5-1 in this tournament that was best of three instead of best of five as the season will be.
Playing for the Spartans this year are starters Cortni Jensen, Ashley Hansen, Natalee Hanson, Misty Nielsen, Audrey Gordon and Kenzie Jensen. Coming off the bench to alternate in are Karly Jensen, Krista Ungerman and Mandi Weihing.
The Spartans played in a tournament over the weekend at Union High School. Their next match is at home and is a region affair against North Sanpete on Sept. 16, a Tuesday evening.
