Cordie Martinez


EAST CARBON-Cordie Baca Martinez, age76, passed away Sept. 16, 2003 at Parkdale Care Center in Price.
She was born June 14, 1927 in Blanco, NM. to Jose Simon and Rosalie Muniz Baca. Married Joe D. Martinez Dec. 3, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Member of the Catholic Church.
Cordie graduated from Carbon College with her licensed practical nursing degree in 1961. Longtime resident of East Carbon, where she worked as a nurse from Utah Permante Hopsital from 1960 until it closed in 1968.
In 1968, she began working at the Carbon Medical Association Clinic, where she worked until her retirement in 1992.
Cordie also worked as an industrial occupational nurse for US Steel company, Kaiser Steel Corporation and assisted the ambulance crews in transporting critical patents to the emergency room.
She wil be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by her husband, Joe D. Martinez, East Carbon; daughter, Judith Reavis, Snowmass, Colo.; sons, Dr. Paul (Cathy) Martinez, Price; Marc Martinez, Columbia; sister, Sadie Rivas, Seattle Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; infant son; daughter Kaye L. Martinez; and nine brothers and sisters.
Memorial Mass was held Sept. 19 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Committal service, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.

Evan Guy Nelson


FERRON-Evan Guy Nelson, age 92, passed away Sept. 18, 2003 in Ferron. He was born Nov. 27, 1910 in Ferron to Guy Martin and Eunice C. Madsen Nelson. He married Lucille Sauls Spence May 28, 1998 in Nephi.
Evan graduated from Brigham Young University and taught art in Helper and Salina. During WWII, he served in the US Army. After the war he taught art at American Fork High School for 40 years. His own paintings reflected his love for the outdoors, horses and dogs.
He is survived by his wife Lucille of Ferron; his brother Philip C. Nelson of Ferron; sisters Beverly Curtis of Phoenix, Ariz. and Carol McArthur of Price; and many nieces, nephew and friends.
Graveside services were held Sept. 20 in the Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
