Meet the Candidate


The American Legion and Auxiliary is sponsoring a Meet the Candidate Night at the Ferron City for the Ferron candidates. It will be held Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Huntington Clean Up


October is Huntington City clean up month. Everyone is encouraged to get out and clean up their property. Three large trash bins have been placed for citizen use. The locations are 400 North 300 East, 350 West Center and 300 South 200 East. These bins will be available through Oct. 31. Everything must be placed inside the bins, do not put anything on the ground.

Elmo DUP


The Elmo Lily of the Valley DUP will hold its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the Elmo DUP building. Remember the Pheasant Hunter’s Breakfast and Dinner fund raising event on Nov. 1 and 8 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Tickets for the drawing are on sale now.

Pheasant Hunter’s Breakfast and Luncheon


The Lily of the Valley Camp DUP will host its annual fund raising Pheasant Hunter’s Breakfast and Luncheon Nov. 1 and 8 beginning at 7 a.m. The festivities will be held at 55 South 100 East in Elmo. Drawing for the quilt and other items will be held Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.

Stress Relief


Dr. Ronald Sanders will hold an informative evening on the subject of stress relief. It will be held at the Castle Dale Senior Citizens Center on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.

ACT Test


College-bound high school students who want to take the ACT test for college admissions have two chances to register before the Dec. 13 national test date. To postmark registration deadline if Nov. 7. An additional fee will be required for the late postmark deadline of Nov. 20. ATV Ride in West Desert


The BLM and state parks will be leading rides on the newly mapped and signed trail systems in the west desert on Oct. 25. Those wishing to participate should meet at the Delta Park at 9 a.m. Maps will be available. For more information, contact billthompson@utah.gov or call 801-538-7357.

Veterans, Widows and Dependents


A field service officer from the American Legion, will be in Price in the Workforce Service Center on Oct. 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This officer will be assisting in understanding and applying of rightful VA benefits, preparing and documents application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits.

Huntington Elementary Craft Fair


Huntington Elementary will hold its annual craft fair in the school gym Nov. 12 from 1-4 p.m. There will be Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts, food and other items. Everyone welcome.

Downpayment Initiative


The Homeownership Challenge is to increase minority homeownership by 5.5 million by the end of the decade. The American Dream Downpayment Initiative made significant progress as the US House of Representatives passed a $400 million bill to assist 80,000 low income families to become homeowners. Swap Meet


The swap meet that the Emery County Youth City Council was planning will be canceled due to lack of participation.

Canine Obedience School


Canine obedience school will begin Oct. 22 from 6-7 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center located at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale. The class will run for six weeks. Pre-register at the Rec Office by Oct. 20. Each class, puppy and adult, is open to 10 participants. Each canine must be current on vaccinations. Tri Stake Fireside


Castle Dale, Ferron and Huntington Stakes will host a special fireside. Brother Thurl Bailey will be the guest speaker. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1996. He is very talented in many ways. This fireside is Latter-day Saint standard and dress. Everyone from 12 to 100 is welcome to attend. No small children or babies.
Bailey will be available for autographs, pictures, and he will also have CDs, and tapes available for those interested. The date for this is Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale. Put this on your calendar now, you won’t want to miss this special event.

Food Handlers Workshop


The Southeastern Utah District Health Department will be conducting two food handler’s workshops Oct. 23 at the health department in Castle Dale, 25 West Main Street, at 4 and 7 p.m. For more information contact Terri Bennett at 381-2252 in Castle Dale or Dr. Claron Bjork at 637-3671 in Price.

Free Trees


To receive 10 free autumn classics trees, send membership contribution to Autumn Classic Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Oct. 31. The free trees are part of the nonprofit foundation’s Trees for American campaign and include two sugar maples, scarlet oak, sweetgum, red oak, silver maple, white dogwood, washington hawthorn and two red maples.

BLM Open House


The Bureau of Land Management Moab and Monticello Field Offices are hosting public open houses to provide and opportunity for public input on BLM managed public lands, their uses and management. The Emery County open house will be held in the John Wesley Powell River History Museum on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. Comments may also be made on the website www.moabrmp.com and www.monticellrmp.com.

DUP Afghan and CD


The Old Mill Camp of the DUP is offering a unique collection of over 200 pictures on CD. There are group pictures and pictures of past and present buildings in Ferron. The CD is being pre-sold to help raise money for the publishing of the book. Can be use as a screen saver or viewed as a picture album. The Old Mill Camp also has an afghan for sale. Huntington City CDBG


Huntington City will be going after funding available through the Community Development Block Grant. A survey of approximately 345 residences will be conducted to establish the number of family members and income levels in order to qualify for this grant. The city urges you to cooperate in order to help make this application a success.

Huntington Fall Burn


Huntington City open fall burn period will be from Sept. 20- Oct. 19. Burn permits will be required, pick them up at city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. This permitted burning does not include trash, garbage and debris burning, only weed growth along ditchbanks. Violators are subject to civil penalties. Do not put any limbs for pickup out on the street after Oct. 12.

Union Local 6363


Attention, union meeting for local 6363 will be held the third Wednesday of every month at the District 22 office in Price. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Attend if you want to receive 70 year anniversary cap.

Castle Dale Library Story Time


Story Time for pre-schoolers will be held every Friday at 11 a.m. Will be held every Friday except. Nov. 28, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Attention Cleveland Residents


Representatives from the town will be contacting residents regarding a short survery. The survey is the first requirement for the 2004 Community Block Grant. This grant and the survey is the same as the grant received to purchase playground equipment. Any questions regarding this survey, contact town hall during business hours. Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 653-2310.

In honor of “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day” the Utah ophthalmological Society encourages you to call the EyeCare America Seniors Program This program offers eye exams and care to seniors who are without an ophthalmologist (a medical eye doctor). To see if you or a loved one or a friend, 65 and older, is eligible to receive a referral for an eye exam and care, call 1-800-222-EYES (3937), 24 hours, seven days a week, year round.

Donate Supplies


There is a box in the lobby at Wells Fargo Bank in Castle Dale in which people can donate items for the food bank and for Newborns in Need in Emery County. The collected supplies will be given to the food bank and they in turn will make the distribution.

Ferron City Survey


Ferron City will be conducting a door to door survey during the next few weeks in the cities of Ferron, Clawson and Moore. This survey is in regards to the application of a Community Development Block Grant.

IronHorse Raceway


IronHorse Raceway will hold their next race on Nov. 1 at the Motocross Track in Huntington. Categories for riders of all ages including pee wees and ATV racers. For more information call Blair and Maurdi Larsen at 687-9273.

Veterans Affairs


On Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-noon, the Utah Division of Veterans’ Affairs will host a workshop with the Small Business Administration. The workshop will consist of information for veterans that plan on opening their own businesses or already own a small business. The workshop will be held at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center building 9, located at 550 Foothill Drive. Pre-registration will begin Sept. 1. Recreation Center Open Night


Open nights at the Emery County Recreation Center will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 p.m. There will be basketball, foosball, table tennis, darts, board games, etc. For more information, please call Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.
