The Emery High Drill Team attended a Jazz Girl Dance Camp this summer where they were successful. Five members of the team were awarded a Jazz sweatshirt for being “Hardworkers” in their class at camp. The girls were: Kari Sharp, Sammy Jones, Sammie Behling, Carrie Bell and Karrie Johansen. Also awarded a sweatshirt for first place on Drill Downs was Jasha Hinkins.
At the camp, the girls were given the opportunity to audition for a performance at a Utah Jazz Basketball game. Savanna Allred and Jasha Hinkins were selected to perform through an audition process where they had to execute advanced dance technique. They will be performing with other dancers in the state at the half-time of the Jazz and the Magic basketball game on Nov. 17.
The Spardettes support all Emery High Teams by performing at the half-times of their home games, but the drill team is also a competing team and will open their competition season of Dec. 13 at College of Eastern Utah. The Spardettes are looking forward to the 2003-04 season.
