Mary Frances Brown
PRICE- Mary Frances Brown, age 86, passed away Nov. 27, 2003 in Castleview Hospital. She was born May 18, 1917 in David, Okla. to Daniel and Bessie Anthony Wickoff. Married Richard “Dick” Brown, Sept. 14, 1940 in Gallup, NM; he died April 9, 2001.
Member of the Price United Methodist Church. Resident of Carbon County since 1944. Member P.E.O. Sisterhood where she was past president. Frances will be dearly missed by her family and a community of longtime friends.
Survived by her daughter, Edith (Terry) Simmonds, grandson, Jordan Simmonds, all of Lewiston, brother, Samuel (Barbara) Wickoff, Grand Junction, Colo; sister Barbara Taylor, Lubbock, Texas.
Preceded in death by parents, brothers Wilford and Gene Wickoff.
Funeral service was held on Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Price United Methodist Church. Family was at the church prior to the services. Interment was in the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Thelma Nielson
SPRING GLEN – Thelma Lee Morrison Hamelwright Nielson passed away Nov. 25, 2003 in Clearfield.
Thelma was born May 29, 1925 in Wiggins, Miss., to Lee and Rosie Irene Redmond Morrison. She was raised in Wiggins, Miss, Price and Kenilworth. Married John James Nielson Sept. 30, 1944 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized for eternity in the Manti LDS Temple.
Thelma graduated from Carbon High School. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in the primary, young women’s, and relief society organizations.
Thelma loved and surrounded herself with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Thelma is survived by children, Barbara (Clyde) Worthen, Albuquerque, N.M.; Linda Nielson Prettyman, Palm Desert, Calif.; Carole (Gardell) Grundvig, Syracuse; John (Lucinda) Nielson, Vernal; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, John James Nielson; son, Richard; grandson, Andrew; and one brother.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29, at the Helper LDS Stake Center. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell’s Funeral Home.
Ray Killpack
Ferron-Glendon Ray Killpack, Jr., 81, passed away Nov. 26, 2003 in St. George. Ray was the son of Nina Nelson and Glendon Ray Killpack, Sr. His younger brother, Ted, preceded him in death. He is the husband of Cleon Olsen and the father of Robert (Shauna), Russell (Connie), Jean (Mike) Bleazard, and Faye (Clark J.) Hubbard.
Before joining the Air Force, he was a sheet metal worker at Hill Field and served two years in Italy during WWII. After the war, he operated Killpack Locker Plant and later was the Administrator of the Emery Co. Nursing Home. He was mayor of Ferron and a member of Ferron Town Council for many years, and was also a county commissioner. He loved working outside and sharing his garden with others.
The Ray Killpack family, parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed family reunions at Ferron Reservoir – catching frogs in the frog pond, riding and fishing in Grandpa’s boat – and just being together. This we’ll remember.
Ray was the first Bishop of Ferron 5th Ward. He and his wife filled an LDS Public Relations Mission in the Colorado Denver Mission, and upon their return were ordinance workers at the Manti Temple.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29, at Noon, in the Ferron Stake Center. A viewing was held from 10-11:30 a.m., prior to the services at the Stake Center. Interment was in the Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. Condolences may be sent through the website at www.metcalfmortuary.com.
