The Emery High Lady Spartans lost a softball thriller at Carbon last week 16-15.
After Carbon took a 5-2 first inning lead and an 8-2 second inning lead, the Spartans scored four runs in the third inning to tie the score at 8-8. In that inning, consecutive doubles by Carly Anderson and Jerica Jensen were the catalyst for the runs.
Emery added three more runs in the fourth inning to take a brief lead until Carbon scored four in the bottom of the fourth to lead 12-11. Cortni Jensen had the only hit of the inning, a single.
Emery was held scoreless the next two innings while the Dinos added a run in the fifth to take a 13-11 lead. In the seventh inning, Erin Anselmo led off with a single and Mandi Weihing walked. Misha Addley advanced the runners with a bunt. After a ground out, Adrian McNee hit a triple to tie the score. Eve Guymon walked, Anderson singled to score McNee and then Jerica doubled to score Guymon and the Spartans led 15-13.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, a walk, two Emery errors and a double scored three Dino runs and a good game was over. Morgan Warburton led Carbon with four hits and five runs.
Eve Guymon and Erin Anselmo each scored three times for the Spartans. McNee led Emery with a single, double and a triple while Jerica Jensen had a single and two doubles.
Emery travels to Delta Tuesday and then is home Thursday in a non-region game against Dixie. The varsity and sophomore games start at 3 p.m. with the JV game immediately after. The fields are just south of high school.
