Rachel Laws
PRICE-Rachel Mary Salazar Laws, age 48, passed away March 21, 2004 at her home. She was born Oct. 27, 1955 in Kenilworth, to Antonio “Joe” Salazar and Rachel Vigil.
Rachel enjoyed collecting antiques and working on her arts and crafts. She loved the outdoors, animals and especially her cat, Patches. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.
Survived by her son, Kent C. Mills, Price; daughter, Mary Jo Laws, Price; granddaughters, MiKell and Hailey Mills, Price; father, Antonio J. Salazar, Wellington; sister, Lori Mutz, Durango, Colo.; brothers, James Salazar, Grand Junction, Colo.; Joseph Salazar, Ogden; and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
Preceded in death by her mother, Rachel; brother Claude Salazar; and sister, Helen Salazar.
Funeral service was held March 26, at the Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Jay Charles Lake
LAYTON – Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jay Charles Lake, age 85, returned to his Father in Heaven and his sweetheart, surrounded by his family, Sat. March 27, 2004.
Jay was born July 22, 1918 in Castle Dale, a son of Asa Robert and Clarissa Williams Lake. He was married to his sweetheart, Elma M. Cox, June 16, 1939 in Castle Dale. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 10, 1959.
Jay belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions throughout his life.
Jay served in the Army during WWII and he retired from Hill Air Force Base.
He loved his family and spending time with them was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elma, his parents, and one grandson, Kevin Dale Goede.
Jay is survived by his seven children Gaylene (Dale) Goede, Dee J. (Susan) Lake, Jack R. Lake, and Wendy (Greg) Fairless, all of Layton; Julie (Craig) Page of Syracuse; Darlene Lake of Liberty; Karen (Mark) Mabson of California; twenty grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thurs,, April 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends and family may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd, Ogden, Utah.

Helen Rasmussen
HUNTINGTON-Our beloved Helen J. Rasmussen, 82, passed away March 23, 2004 in Ferron.
She was born Sept. 2, 1921 in Hiawatha to Rulon Aurelius and Pearl Ferneth Ungerman Hardee. She married Bruce William Lott Feb. 9, 1937 in Castle Dale and later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in May, 1958. He died Jan. 10, 1980 and she then married Arthur Rasmussen Aug. 23, 1984. He passed away in May 1998.
Helen enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing and quilting, embroidery, gardening and canning. She also worked for the Red Cross, civil defense, Huntington Library, Castle Valley Credit Union, electronics and teachers aid.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including a mission in the Washington D.C. LDS Temple and the Manti LDS Temple.
She is survived by children, Don (Helane) Lott of Kearns; Fern (Derald) Oliver of Castle Dale; Ramona (Kim) Sherman of Salt lake; Dennis (Pauline) Lott of Escalante; and Billie Jean (David) Raisanen of Greshem, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by sister, Donna (Len) Anderson; and brother LaVoy (Marilyn) Hardee. She was preceded in death by parents; spouses; son, Rulon Ray; brothers, Kenneth and Jack; sister Roylance; granddaughter, Sharon Oliver; and great-grandsons Christopher A. Cooper and Austin W. Grevstad.
Graveside services were held on March 27 at the Huntington Cemetery.
Katherine Bailey
GREEN RIVER/PRICE-Katherine Ann Mahon Bailey, age 72, passed away March 28, 2004 in a Price Hospital.
She was born April 2, 1931 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Frank and Esther Opperman Mahon, she was their only daughter.
Katherine was raised in the Catholic faith and would in her later life be a practitioner in the full gospel of Jesus Christ. She was the consummate of motherhood, supportive and inspirational even up to the last day of her life.
She married Robert Lee Bailey, March 1, 1952 in Los Angeles, Calif. and they were only separated by his death in March of 2000. He was the love of her life and she never fully recovered from his loss. From this union they had one son, Patrick F. Bailey, born in November of 1953 and one grandson, Sean R. Bailey.
Katherine was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, sacrificing her wants and needs for that of her family’s. Beautiful in life both spiritually and physically you were the wind under our wings.
Survivors include her only son, Patrick, and his wife Betty Jean; grandson, Sean Bailey, all of Price. We love you Yah Yah now and forever.
A family graveside service will be held in the Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Price York Rite.
Eva “Teta” Perla
CARBONVILLE-Our loving sister, aunt and friend to many, Eva “Teta” Perla, age 78, passed away March 26, 2004, in the arms of her loving niece Patty.
She was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Aspen, Colo. to John and Amelia Miljavac Perla.
Eva attended schools in Kenilworth, Notre Dame and later graduated from Carbon High School. She worked in the banking industry for many years prior to her retirement in 1981.
She is survived by her sisters, Annie Peczuh and Rose Koran; sister-in-law, Merena Perla, all of Carbonville; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, sisters, Mary and Molly; brothers, John , Frank and Joe.
Funeral Mass, Tues., March 30 at 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Monday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home, where friends are welcome daily. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
