Flag Raising Ceremonies at County cemeteries


On May 31, The American Legion Post 73 will have flag raising ceremonies at the following county cemeteries: Cleveland at 9:30 a.m.; Elmo at 10 a.m.; Lawrence-time pending;and Huntington at noon. All visitors are welcome to attend.

American Legion and Auxiliary Post 73


American Legion and Auxiliary Post 73 of Huntington/Cleveland/Elmo will have a flag raising ceremony at Huntington Cemetery on May 31 at noon, after the dedication of a plaque and program honoring Vic Ungerman and the restoration of the stone pillars at the south gate. Everyone welcome to come and honor those who served.

Miss Cleveland Pageant


All Cleveland girls between the ages of 4-21 are encouraged to participate in this years pageant to be held on June 12. Registration forms are available at the town hall or Country Corner. There is a registration fee. Deadline to enter is June 1. Brydi Sharp will direct the pageant. Any questions call Jamie at 653-2310 or 653-2219.

Developmental Screening


If you have questions or concerns about your child’s development, and the child is five years or younger, call the public health office to schedule an appointment for a free screening. For an appointment, call Michelle at 381-2693. Birth certificate and immunization record will be required.

Food Handlers Workshop


The Southeastern Utah District Health Department will be conducting two food handler’s workshops May 20 at the Health Department, 25 West Main Street in Castle Dale. The workshops will be held at 4 and 7 p.m. For more information contact Terri Bennet at 381-2252 or Dr. Claron Bjork at 637-3671.

Joseph Venus Art Exhibit


Utah artist, Joseph Venus’ art will be on exhibit at the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Art Museum, 155 East Main in Price, during the months of June, July and August. On June 4 at the Art Gallery, a reception will be held to meet the artist from 7-9 p.m.

Castle Dale Library Story Time


Story Time for will not be held through the month of May, but will resume again on Tues. June 1 at 11 a.m. Story time will continue on Tuesdays all summer.

Scoping Meeting in Green River


The San Rafael Soil Conservation District will host a scoping meeting in Green River on May 24 at 6 p.m. at Green River Town Hall. The public is welcome to comment concerning issues surrounding the proposed salinity control improvments to the Green River irrigation systems, laterals and on-farm measures. This proposed project will include all irrigated lands in and around the town of Green River.

Huntsman Cancer Hospital Open House

Emery County Historical Society


Emery County Historical Society will meet at the corrals by the Buckhorn Road at 4 p.m. on May 15 to tour the Huntington Creek homesteads. Afterwards a pot luck dinner will be held. Be sure to bring a jacket and a chair. For more information contact Bert Oman at 381-5676.

Open House at Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center


Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center’s staff will celebrate National Nursing Home Week with activities throughout the week of May 10. The public is welcome to see the improvements that have been made at the center and meet the staff and residents.

John Wesley Powell Museum Art Show


Joseph Venus is spearheading an art show to be held at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River during the month of June. Some of the artworks will be available for purchase. Anyone can participate by bringing artwork to the museum May 23-25. The theme for the show will be Canyon River Runners. Awards will be given. ATV Safety Class


Emery County Recreation will be sponsoring an ATV class on May 18 at 7 p.m. This class will be held at the county building located at 75 East Main, Castle Dale. You must preregister for this class. There is material that your child must read ahead of time. Utah State Law states that all children ages 8-16 must be certified to drive an ATV on public lands. Register your child today at 381-2108, or at the recreation center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale.

Hunter Safety Class


Emery County Recreation will be sponsoring a hunters safety class during the week of June 7. This class will be held at the Recreation Center located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. This class will be held during the day. Register at the center of call 381-2108.

Dog Obedience Class


Emery County Recreation will be sponsoring a dog obedience class beginning May 26. This class will for six weeks. Your dog must be at least 12 weeks or older. Adult dogs are welcome. Register at 381-2108 or at the recreation center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Rep. Matheson has been forced to cancel his visit to Emery County.

Relay for Life Memory Wall


In remembrance of loved ones and friends who have passed on from cancer, a memory wall will be constructed at the Relay for Life. Submit a story and photo of the person to Sandy Behling. For more information, contact Sandy at 384-2983.

Volunteers Needed At CEU Museum

Crystal Apple Awards


The Emery Telcom Crystal Apple Awards ceremony which will honor the Southeastern Utah Teacher of the Year is scheduled for May 15 at the Jennifer Leavitt Building on the College of Eastern Utah campus, in the multicultural room at 6 p.m. Friends, family, students and colleagues are welcome to show support for the educators is our area.

Cleveland Fun Ride


ATV and motorcycle riders and riders of all ages are welcome to the Cleveland Fun Ride to be held May 15. Meet at the Cleveland Park at 9 a.m. This will be a fun family ride. Emery History Book


Emery Town is republishing the original Emery History Book. This book is being reproduced exactly as it was with no changes. Advance orders are being taken for books at Emery Town Hall. The books will be ready for sale on Memorial Day and at that time the price will be higher. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Emery historical “Old Church” fund. Huntington City Secondary Watering Schedule


Even numbered houses and lots, water Monday and Thursday; odd numbered houses and lots, water Tuesday and Friday; churches, schools, mobile home parks, cemetery and city parks, water Wednesday and Saturday. Absolutely no watering on Sunday. Watering hours 6-10 a.m. and 6-10 p.m. No watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Absolutely no watering during the night. The water forecast for this year is not as good as it was last year. Everyone needs to conserve water and follow the watering schedule. It is a violation to allow water to run onto land owned by another person or onto city streets. Anyone not following the water schedule or wasting water will be subject to penalties. First offense-warning; second offense-citation; and third offense-loss of secondary water for season.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, department service office, will be in the area to assist in understanding and applying for rightful benefits, on May 13 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Price Workforce Service Center.
