Clair Behling
EAST CARBON – Clair H. Behling, age 79, passed away May 10, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center in American Fork.
He was born Jan. 11, 1925 in Ferron to Herman and Hedvig Peterson Behling. Married Irene Madge Christensen Nov. 29, 1946 in Castle Dale, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Clair served in the Navy during World War II as a Navy Boatsman Second class. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Member of the Utah Fish and Game, Wildlife Federation and a hunter safety instructor. He worked for U.S. Steel Horse Canyon mine for 42 years as “Dagwood”. He was a blacksmith. He loved to play softball, enjoyed his grandchildren playing and would talk ball at any time.
Survived by children, Dennis (Sandy) Behling, Castle Dale; JoLynn (Don) Steele, Salt Lake City; Vynette (Kevin) Wilbur, Craig, Colo.; Scott (Toni) Behling, Sunnyside; Gina (Kent) Jones, American Fork; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sister, Henry Behling, Pleasant Grove, Alice Unger, Fort Collins, Colo.; and Rex Behling, Payson. Preceded in death by partner and wife of 57 years, Madge Behling.
Thanks to all those who got to know Daddy and let him tease them. He loved to tease you.
Funeral services will be Fri., May 14, 11 a.m., at the East Carbon LDS Chapel. Friends and family may gather at 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery at 3 p.m. under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Samuel Fratto
EAST CARBON/PRICE – Samuel “Sunny” Fratto, age 94, died peacefully on May 14, 2004 in Salt Lake City.
He was born May 8, 1910 in Sunnyside, to Joseph and Rosa Spatafore Fratto. Married Ida Compagni June 25, 1931. She died on July 31, 1993.
He was a lifelong resident of Carbon County, having lived in Columbia until three years ago when he moved to Price to be near his daughter.
Daddy went to work in the coal mines when he was 16, and worked in various coal mines throughout Carbon County, retiring after more than 50 years. He was a member of the Local Union 8003 and 9958. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5663, a former East Carbon City councilman, and member of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Review Board. In his younger day, Sunny was an extraordinary baseball player. He is still renowned for his prowess as a pitcher. If the opportunity had been available in his prime, he could have been a major league star. His sons followed in his footsteps and all played baseball. Daddy was a diehard Yankee fan and his greatest thrill was to see the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium. Both dad and mom enjoyed playing Casina with their many friends and relatives over the years. Daddy enjoyed challenging the younger family members in playing horseshoes and Bocce at the family reunions. More often than not, they learned a valuable lesson in having their egos bruised.
Sunny is survived by daughter, Delores “Dee” (Ernie) Etzel of Price; sons, Joel “Toots” (Marilyn), Gary (Denise), and Robert (Marie), all of West Valley City; daughter-in-law, Dolores Stellefson of Newburgh, N. Y.; sister, Rose Maio; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Ida; son, Sunny Jr.; parents; three sisters; four brothers; and a great-granddaughter.
Our family wishes to thank Serf and Delma Nick and the Nick family for their beloved friendship that daddy cherished over the many years.
Vigil service Tues., May 18, 7 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wed., May 19, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price at 210 North Carbon Ave. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.

Shirlene Thomas
CLEVELAND-Shirlene Thomas, 75, formerly of Cleveland, passed away on May 12, 2004 in Farmington, N.M. She was born Sept. 2, 1928 to Thomas and Anne Ward Bawden. Married Elwood Thomas on April 12, 1948 in Kansas City, Mo. They have lived in Page, Ariz. for the last 10 years.
Shirlene enjoyed crocheting, fishing and Barbie collecting. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survived by husband Elwood Thomas, children, Jan (Jay H.) Parduhn, Page, Ariz. and Herb E. (Jean) Thomas, Ferron; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also survived by brother Leon Bawden, Mesa, Ariz. and sister Claudia Aubert, Grand Junction, Colo. Preceded in death by parents, grandson Zachary Thomas, sister Nellie Edwards and brother Herbert Bawden.
Funeral services will be held Tues., May 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland LDS Chapel. A viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Della Bowman
HUNTINGTON-Della Bowman, 94, of Huntington, passed away on May 12, 2004 in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was born April 12, 1910 to Josephita and Jose Martinez. She grew up in Colorado with five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Jennie) Sandoval of Cottonwood, Ariz., Mrs. Lloyd (Shirley) Mogensen of Scottsdale, Ariz., son Julian and daughter-in-law Karolyle of Huntington. Also survived by two sisters, Gertrude Moya of El Monte, Calif., and Isabel Velasquez of Denver, Colo. and two brothers, Albert (Val) Martinez of Denver, Colo. and Joe T. Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew and son Andrew Jr. and three brothers, Erminio, Fred and Phil Martinez. She was dearly loved and adored by each and every member of her family and she will be missed by all.
Graveside services were held May 17 in the Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Rocky Mountain Hospice in Price.
John Peck
SALT LAKE CITY – John Bolton Peck, died May 3, 2004 in Salt Lake City.
He was born Aug. 6, 1951 in Portland, Ore., to Donald J. and Catherine Bolton Peck.
John (Bo) was a kind, honest and caring man who touched many lives while on this earth. He was never to busy to help others. He is loved and will be missed by many.
Survived by wife, Debbie Stegen Peck; son, Bolton (Janet) Peck, Preston, Wash.; mother, Catherine Peck, Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister, Diana (Mark) Milovich, Missouri Valley, Iowa; brothers, Daniel (Kathy) Peck, Mesquite, Texas; Robert (Marilyn) Peck, Orem; granddaughter, Rose. Also survived by four nieces and four nephews. Preceded in death by father; sister, Dale Anne; and infant twin brothers.
Memorial service was held at Colonial Mortuary in Salt Lake City on May 7.
Graveside service was held Sat., May 8, at Price City Cemetery.
LeGrande Prichard
PRICE/GRAND JUNCTION, Colo./ – LeGrande Prichard passed away May 5, 2004 in Grand Junction, Colo.
He was born Jan. 1, 1916 in Vernal. He married Wilma Behiling on April 2, 1939. They were blessed with four children, Linda, Louise, Bruce and Lizbeth. They were sealed as eternal family on Sept. 19, 1959 in the Manti LDS Temple.
He grew up in Price, spending summers in Vernal helping extended family members. By the time he graduated from high school he was well on his way to learning the trucking business from his father. LeGrande loved to drive trucks. He drove the first diesel truck in the Moab Valley. LeGrande, his two brothers and father, had their own trucking company, Prichard Transfer. They would haul most any heavy load that needed to be moved. They were especially active in the oil business moving the rigs and other equipment. LeGrande ran the office in the Moab area; one of the specialty items LeGrande hauled was sulfuric acid for the uranium mills at Mexican Hat and Moab. In 1972 LeGrande and his brothers sold Prichard Transfer.
He will be missed by family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Wilma; daughters, Linda, Louise and Lizbeth; son, Bruce; sister, Irene Lemon of Moab; brother, Bert Prichard of Price; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson; sisters, Fern, Mildred Larcher, Georgia Anderson; and brothers, Lorraine and Leon Prichard.
Services were held May 10. Interment, Grand Valley Cemetery, Moab.
