Melody Kimber
Our beloved wife, mother, and friend was taken from us May 18, 2004. Born in Price, to Calvin and JoAnn Peacock Cox on Sept. 6, 1962.
She married Kelly Kimber on July 10, 1981 in the Manti Temple. They have two children Brady (21), and Maree (17) who were the joy of her life.
She spent much of her childhood in Moab where she loved the hot summer days and swimming in the pool. She graduated from Carbon High School where she ran on the track team. She learned the value of hard work by working for her father’s construction company. She attended college at the College of Eastern Utah where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen. She loved to cheer and that spirit never left her.
She gave so much and expected so little in return. She loved her family and the gospel more than anything else. She was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her life was driven by principles and she never varied from them. She was faithful in every aspect of her life and remained true to the end. If ever a person endured to the end, it was she. Her life was filled with trials but she used them to refine her rather than make her bitter. Her favorite mottos were: “I may bend, but I won’t break,” “you can’t hurt steel” and “If Betty Crocker doesn’t do it, neither do I.” (She had others, but they can’t be repeated here.) She truly was as strong as steel, but then again, she was the daughter of Calvin Cox.
Through her adversity she learned how to forgive and genuinely offered love to everyone around her. She will be remembered for her wonderful personality, sense of humor and the many talents she had. She loved life, but was never more happy than when spending time with her family and encouraging them to achieve their dreams.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings and gave of her time and talents to the work of the Lord. She had an active interest in the world around her and served in the PTA and other community events.
She loved to dance and be around people. She was blessed with so many skills. She could put in a sprinkling system or an air conditioner one day, then make a flower arrangement and decorate a cake for a wedding the next. She was amazing. She loved to sing and her favorite instrument was playing the radio.
She is survived by husband Kelly, children, Brady and Maree, (Riverton). Siblings: Paul and Detra Cox (Moab), Keith and Rachel Cox, (Spring Glen), Catherine Cox (Layton), Helen and Michael McCandless, (Huntington) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Calvin and JoAnn Cox.
We love you, Melody. We miss you! Our thoughts and prayers are with you until we meet again.
Funeral services were held Sat., May 22, 11 a.m., at the Golden Meadow 2nd LDS Ward, 12681 South 3600 West Riverton. Family and Friends called Friday from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10550 So.) and one hour prior to service.
Billie Currie
WELLINGTON – Our loving mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend, Billie A. Hagy Curry, age 81, passed away May 21, 2004 in Price.
She was born July 8, 1922 in Welch, W. Va. to William and Ethel Patton Hagy. Married Colmer C. Curry Dec. 1, 1945 in Delbarton, W. Va. He died May 6, 1981.
Faithful member of the Price First Baptist Church, where she served as secretary, treasurer and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Once a week Billie and her best friend Sylvia Clerico enjoyed volunteering at the care centers in Price. She loved music, reading, traveling and visiting with her grandchildren.
Survived by son, Gary G. Curry, Price; daughter Sarah C. Thomas, Wash.; granddaughter, Holly A. Thomas, Auburn, Wash.; grandson, Reed A. Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Kennady Thomas, all of Phoenix, Ariz. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Edith Reid and Georgia P. Lawson.
Funeral service Tues., May 25, 2 p.m., Price First Baptist Church, 200 North 300 East. Family will be at the church Tuesday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Interment, Wellington city Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Price First Baptist Church.
Dennis Martyn
GREEN RIVER – After a long illness Dennis Ralph (Fluckey) Martyn passed away May 21, 2004 at his home in Green River of renal failure.
He was born March 17, 1941 in Alamosa, Colo, to Ralph Roger and Lillian Iceal Fluckey. He married Laraine Walker May 28, 1966 and enjoyed his life with her and their three children.
Following graduation from Green River High School, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was one of the first licensed EMT’s in Green River and worked for 10 years on the ambulance. He was also a volunteer for the fire department and served as assistant fire chief for many years. He was a charter member of the Silent City Muzzleloaders.
In 1987, he relocated to Yerington, Nev. where he worked for the Nevada Auto Test Center.
This was a job that he loved. Due to health reasons he came home in 1993.
He is survived by wife, Laraine of Green River; daughter,Chandra (Ben) Lehnhoff, also of Green River; sons, Bret (Wendy) Martyn of Fallon, Nev.; Lane Martyn of North Ryde, Australia; grandchildren, Alyssa, Tristen, Chad and Tyler; mother, Lillian Peats of Rocky Ford, Colo., brother, Gary Fluckey of Green River; and other stepbrothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by father, Roger; and stepmothers, Esther Fluckey and Marvel Ryan.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the Castleview Dialysis Unit and the Green River Medical Center staff for their compassionate support.
