Records to Archives
The Local Governmental Records Preservation Project will now be coming to the municipalities, counties and school districts within the Emery, Carbon, Grand and San Juan counties. This project will be carried out under the sponsorship of the State Archives and the Emery County Archives and in cooperation with the Southeastern Association of Governments.
The project provides an opportunity for all local government agencies to have their historical governmental records identified, preserved on microfilm, and made accessible locally. Microfilm copy of these records will be provided to each participating agency, the State Archives, and the Regional History Center in Castle Dale. All of this will be at no cost to local governments.
There records of interest are: minutes of councils and boards, city or town charter papers, resolutions and ordinances, annual reports general and fiscal), cemetery burial records (if the city operates a cemetery), and other unique local historical records.
The regional orientation meeting for this project will be held on June 9 from 9-10 a.m. The project will be described in more detail as to what will be expected and what the archives staff will be doing to help preserve the agency governmental historical records.
Directly following this meeting, the State Archives will offer a comprehensive records management training session from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Both will be held at the Emery County Commission chambers. It will be conducted by the State Archives and hosted by Emery County.
Also to be discussed at this orientation meeting is the possibility of the State Archives and Division of State History establishing a regional records repository at the Emery County Archives. We welcome all government records officers and all interested parties-history and museum organizations, genealogists, history buffs, etc.-to attend the first hour of orientation.
These records will be preserved and that they will become part of a statewide collection of local records documenting the history of the communities and local agencies of Utah.
DROPS
DROPS will be held June 22 at the Fairgrounds, 500 East 100 South, Castle Dale. Sign up begins at noon. We are not responsible for late truck deliveries nor the quality/quantity of food offered. You must be present to pick up a box. First come, first served. Please do not block private driveways.
Community Worship Service
June 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the tent located at 1353 South Carbon Ave., in Price the following four churches will be combining their worship services in the tent provided by Heartbeat of Jesus Ministries.
Freedom Christian Fellowship; Price Community Methodist Church; Price Chpael (Christian and Missionary Alliance); and New Life Ministries.
Tent Revival

Memorial Plaque Fund Raiser
A fund raiser is being held for Cemetery Memorial Plaques for each of the cemeteries by the American Legion. Donations can be sent to Ray Quinn PO Box 126, Cleveland, Utah 84518.
Historical Society/Fund Raiser
Everyone is welcom to attend Emery County Historical Society’s June meeting, which will be a spaghetti dinner fund raiser on June 24 at 6 p.m. at the Castle Dale park pavillion. Cost will be affordable. Donations of more will be accepted. Funds will help planned projects proceed. Society members, bring a dessert to share. Call Bert Oman, Mervin Miles or Kathaleen Rowley.
There will be a guest speaker, musical group and a recognition and presentation to Eva Conover, Ferron resident and author, who was the first president of the original Castle Valley Historical Society.
Emery County Fair Scottish Festival

Vendors for the Fair
Attention vendors. Booth space is going quickly, so if vendors would like a space, contact Cheryl or Kathy at 687-2403. Applications must be in as soon as possible for booth space at the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 3-7.
Miss Emery County Pageant
Any ladies age 17-24, who would like to compete in the Miss Emery County Scholarship Pageant should contact Natalie Blackwell at 384-3184 as soon as possible.
Turning Over Iraq
Frontline World will air Turning Over Iraq on June 24 at 8 p.m. on KUED. This program investigates the realities of what was supposed to be post war Iraq, including resistance to the occupation forces.
Food Handlers Workshops
The Southeastern Utah District Health Department will be conducting two food handlers workshops June 17 at the health department in Castle Dale, 25 West Main Street, at 4 and 7 p.m.
Orangeville Skate Park
Orangeville City is having a fund raiser to raise money to build a skate park. First prize is a Kawasaki 250 4-wheeler, other prizes also available. Purchase tickets at Orangeville City Hall or from one of the city council members. Drawing will be June 19. Need not be present to win.
Western Legends Roundup
A cowboy celebration of music, poetry, folklore and more will be held in Kanab Aug. 24-29. For information about entertainment visit the website www.westernlegendsroundup.com.
Summer School at San Rafael Junior High
Summer school will begin on June 8. A parent or guardian needs to accompany the student on the first day to fill out the registration and pay the fee. It is not mandatory for the students to attend all 10 sessions of summer school. They may complete the work at home or in class, but all work will be due on the last day, which is July 15. Pre-registration will ensure that your student has work ready on the first day. Classes will be held June 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, July 6, 8, 13 and 15. People with Disabilities
Learn more about people with disabilities and their families at two workshops to be given in Emery County presented by the Disability Law Center. In Castle Dale, June 17 at Castle Dale City Hall from 9-11 a.m. In Green River, June 17 at Green River City Hall from 3-5 p.m.
Project WET are offering a local workshop, Exploring Utah’s Forests and Wetlands. The workshop will be held June 10-11 at Huntington Elementary School from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It is open to all educators, pre-service educators, parents or local community leaders. John Wesley Powell Days
June 18-19 are scheduled for the first annual John Wesley Powell Days celebration in Green River. Activites will begin at the museum at 7 p.m. on June 18 and continue through June 19. There will be breakfast, dinner, entertainment, games, plenty of activities for children, movies, a western band and much more.
