Charles Merwin Johansen
ELMO-Charles Merwin Johansen, 88, of Elmo, passed away July 6, 2004 in Price. Born Nov. 3, 1915 in Cleveland to Charles Antone and Sophia Ann Timothy Johansen. Married Cora Larie Oliver on May 22, 1946, in Elmo.
Charles was a member of the LDS Church and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. His life’s work and favorite hobby was farming and ranching.
Survived by his wife Larie and children, Carol (Steve) Hoke, Youngstown, Pa. Wilma (Richard) Snow, Kaysville, Kerwin (Cathy) Johansen, Roosevelt, Larry Johansen, Elmo, Peggy Schade, Huntington, Pete (Maria) Johansen, Price; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Leah Nelon, St. George, and three brothers, Roy Johansen, Elmo, Lloyd Johansen, Price, and Glendon Johansen, Cleveland. Preceded in death by parents, son Lee Grant Johansen, grandson Andrew Charles Johansen and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Monday July 12, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Elmo LDS Chapel, where friends called one hour prior ro services. Burial in the Elmo Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
LaMont H. Kartchner
PRICE-LaMont H. Kartchner, age 80, passed away July 8, 2004 at Parkdale Care Center. Born Dec. 1, 1923 in Blanding, to Henry and Nora Black Kartchner.
Married Darlene Blackburn Mabbutt, July 1, 1961 in Spring Glen.
LaMont was a long time resident of Carbon County and partner of K&M Construction where he built many homes and businesses in Carbon and Emery counties. He was a retired member and business representative for the Carpenters Union Local #2202. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member and past-president of the Carbon Country Club. LaMont enjoyed golfing, camping, gardening, sports and a good game of cards with his buddies. His greatest love was for his family and grandchildren.
Survived by his wife, Darlene Kartchner, Price; five daughters and two sons, Dawn (Jim) Leonard, East Carbon; LaLani (Sam) Haymes, Fruit Heights; Pat (Nyal) Nessen, St. George; Kathy Mabbutt, Roosevelt; DeAnn Mabbutt, Price; Randy (Bobbie) Mabbutt, Price; Ray (LaRae) Cook, Roosevelt; sister, Jean Laws, Carbonville; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, daughters, Penny Kay and Lee Kartchner; two grandsons and two sisters.
Funeral services were July 12 at 11 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Garth Oliverson
ORANGEVILLE-Garth Lynn Oliverson, age 76, passed away July 3, 2004 in Ferron.
He was born Oct. 9, 1927 in Franklin, Idaho, to George Lynn and Ila Christensen Oliverson. He married Sonya “Toni” Earley Oct. 2, 1967 in Elko, Nev., later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple April 28, 1984.
He loved camping with his family and was a great story teller. He really loved the old time country music. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and they loved him.
He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army and two years in the Navy.
He worked all his life as a truck driver in road construction and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Garth is survived by his wife Toni of Orangeville; three sons, Clay Oliverson and his wife Tammy of Castle Dale; Neil W. Early, Odgen; Bryan D. Oliverson, Salt Lake City; seven beautiful granddaughters and one very special grandson. Also survived by brother Glade Oliverson, Washington; and sisters, Connie Millard and Maxine Anderson, both of Idaho. Preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Graveside services were Tues. July 6, at the Orangeville Cemetery.
Tyson Bradford
“Taz”
MOAB/VIRGINIA-Tyson Booth “Taz” Bradford, 20 of Waynesboro, Va., passed away July 5, 2004, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville as a result of an automobile accident. Taz was born Nov. 10, 1983 in Moab to Joan Johnson Bradford and the late Gary L. Bradford.
He was a technician at Express Lube and he enjoyed his car and fishing. He loved his friends and helping other people, especially his nieces and nephews.
Survived by his mother Joan Johnson Bradford and her lifetime partner Mark Thompson of Waynesboro, Va., fiancee Annie Fretwell of Sherando, Va., brother Rocco R. Bradford and sister Crystal N. Bradford, Waynesboro, Va., niece Macy R. Chapman, twin nephews Rusty T. and Riley C. Bradford, paternal grandfather Tom Bradford of Blanding, paternal grandmother Bobbie Jolley of Staunton, Va., maternal grandparents Glen Dale and Darline Johnson of Green River, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his father Gary L. Bradford on Dec. 13, 2002.
Memorial services were held at his home in Waynesboro, Va. on July 10, and a memorial service will also be held in Utah at a later date.
