Spiderman Not coming to Parade


Spiderman will not be attending the Emery County Fair Parade. Any Child wearing any Spiderman shirt or hat and walks or rides in the parade can draw out for fair day prizes including carnival tickets and Lagoon tickets. Sign up sheets will be at the fair parade table at 9 a.m. on Aug. 7.

Bioterrorism Response Training


July 22 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Price from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. This training is sponsored by the Utah Dept. of Health, Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Hospital Bioterrorism Grant, and the CDC Bioterrorism Grant. Fair Bike Ride


The Emery County Fair Bike ride will be held on July 31. From 8-9 a.m. is the registration time at the Huntington State Park. Lunch and prizes, small fee. No ride T-shirts this year.

Peach Days Pageant


Ferron Peach Days Queen and Peach Blossom Pageant will be held on Aug. 21 at the Emery High Auditorium. Entry forms may be picked up at the Ferron City Hall and must be turned in by July 30. Got Milk? Looking for New Teen Face


The national “Got Milk?” campaign, Rolling Stone magazine and MTV are teaming up to give local Salt Lake teens a shot at fame.
The tour will choose one resident to be in a Milk Mustache ad alongside a famous rock star in Rolling Stone magazine.
The free event will take place July 22 at Smith’s Marketplace, 555 South 200 West, Bountiful, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Celtic and Scottish Festival


The Emery County Fair is hosting the second Annual Celtic Festival on Aug.7. Pipe bands will be part of the parade and there will be professional musical groups throughout the day. The Celtic Village will have clan booths and vendors. There will be Celtic games, food and entertainment. The village will be set up at the fairgrounds ballpark in Castle Dale.Come be part of your Scottish and Irish heritage!

Rodeo Tickets for Senior Citizens


A discount ticket will be available for county senior citizens to attend the Thursday or Friday night San Rafael Pro Rodeo. These tickets can be purchased at the local senior citizen centers. Buses will run from the senior centers to the rodeo on Thursday night as needed. A bus will also run from Green River. The rodeo is on July 29, 30 and 31.

Cleveland Town Parade


Cleveland Town would like to welcome all veterans to be a part of our Cleveland Days Parade on July 24. The float for veterans will be in the church parking lot. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Any questions, call Richard Murdoch at 653-2943.

Huntington Airport Flying Club


Huntington Municipal Airport is forming a flying club for the residents of Emery County. There will be two meetings held, July 29 at 7 p.m. and July 31 at 8 p.m. Both will be held in the Huntington Airport terminal. Food Handlers Class


Food handlers classes will be held on July 22 and Aug. 19 in Price at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department. A Class will also be held in Castle Dale at the Health Department on Aug. 12 at 4 and 7 p.m. There is a charge for these classes and they are two hours in length. ATV Fun Run


As a part of the Emery Town Reunion there will be an ATV Fun Run on July 23. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. at the Emery City Park. Castle Dale Stake July 24 Celebration


Everyone is welcome to join the July 24 celebration. Acitivites will begin with flag ceremonies at 6:45 a.m. in Castle Dale and Orangeville city parks. Breakfast will be served in each park beginning at 7 a.m. Dinner will be held at the Castle Dale rodeo grounds at 6 p.m., for a small fee. Fireworks will begin at dark.

Educational Opportunity Center


The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid applications, college course selection and completing their GEDs, if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. The Educational Opportunity Center is located in the Jennifer Leavitt Building CEU – Room 213. Feel free to walk in without an appointment or call Shawnee at 613-5243. During the summer the center will be closed on Fridays.

Car donations and the IRS


In recent years, the number of car donation organizations has increased dramatically. Publication 4303, A Donor’s Guide to Car Donations, provides descriptions of several different car donation programs, filing and disclosure requirements for charities operating these programs and related information. Cleveland Days Bike Ride


Cleveland Days bike ride will be held July 22 at the Cleveland City Park. Come early, registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Three rides: 10 miles, 20 miles, or sidewalk ride, this is not a race. No registration fee. Helmets are required. Sponsored by Cleveland City, promoted by MECCA. A Mountain bike will be given away. Free root beer floats and guided rides. Combined Class Reunion


The graduating classes of ’67, ’68, ’69, ’70 and ’71 will meet Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Emery High School Lunchroom. Those attending are asked to bring a treat to share or a small fee. Emery County Fair-Building Bridges


This years Emery County Fair will include many fun demonstrations. A schedule will be posted on the outside of the fair building as well as at each demonstration area with the topic and time. Some of the fun things that will be a part of this events are: scrapbooking classes all day; classes in family history; the internet and genealogy; cooking classes, a quilt block demonstration; fly-tying; sculpture; watercolors; digital camera operation; and pottery. These and many more will be demonstrated during the four day fair.

A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, department service office, will be in the area to assist in understanding and applying for rightful benefits, on from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Price Workforce Service Center.

Sustainable Agriculture Research Grants Available


The latest round of funding from the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program will soon be disbursed. Western SARE farmer/rancher grant proposals are due Oct 1 and professional development program proposals are due Oct. 15. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Joseph Venus Art Exhibit


Utah artist, Joseph Venus’ art will be on exhibit at the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Art Museum, 155 East Main in Price, during the months of July and August.

Castle Dale Library Story Time


Discover new trails at your library is the theme for story time. Story time at the Castle Dale Library is 11 a.m on Tuesday. Come in and register for reading time, set your own goal to read for prizes. Participate in fun games and activities.

Emery History Book


Emery Town is republishing the original Emery History Book. This book is being reproduced exactly as it was with no changes. New Category for Emery County Fair Entries


Scrapbooking is the new category for the Emery County Fair this year. Pull out your best pages to enter into the competition, or better still, you have some time left to construct pages for judging. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
