Thelma J. Oveson Rasmussen
May 4, 1905-July 15, 2004
Her body grew weary but her spirit was still strong and cried out to be free. On July 15, 2004, the Heavens opened and into the arms of Angels and her waiting family and friends there, our dear Mother and Grandmother departed only to begin her most magnificent journey. Leaving behind the pain and sorrow, she is now at peace and reunited at last with the loved ones who have been waiting. Overcome with sadness, not a day will pass that we will not miss her, but we rejoice in knowing that indeed, her spirit has been set free and will forever dwell in our hearts to guide us in all that we do. So until the day comes that she too will be there waiting with open arms to welcome us, we must say “goodbye dear one.”
Preceded in death by her parents James A. Oveson and Jane P. Stokes, three sisters, two brothers, a son-Lawrence Venoy Rasmussen, a daughter-Joyce Ann Tamllos, three grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.
Survived by a sister Marie Atwood, Elmo, daughter Evelyn J. (Cambron) Peterson, Brigham City, son Henry J. (Myrna) Rasmussen, El Paso, Texas, son Ronald Vaughn (Dauna) Rasmussen, Alpine, daughter Myrna Lee (Frank) Saccomanno, Spring Glen, son Tommy K. (Bonnie) Rasmussen, Spring Glen, 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on July 19 at noon at the Spring Glen LDS Chapel. A viewing was held prior to the church services. Burial was in the Price Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to Turnquist Retreat where Mom received such loving care and was known to all as “Aunt Thel.”
Lavarda Jones
1911 ~ 2004
AMERICANFORK-Inez Lavarda Johnson Defriez Jones left this earthly existence July 14, 2004. She had been living with her daughter Marva Peterson and later with her grandson Michael Peterson and his wife Janice of American Fork, who provided loving care for her for several years as her health failed.
She was born Jan. 30, 1911 in Huntington, the fifth child of J. B. Johnson and Alice Allen and spent her early years in Huntington graduating from Huntington High School. She married Charles Defriez, Nov. 23, 1931 in Price, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple March 27, 1933. Children from this marriage were Stanley Charles (Joan); Norval J. (Ann);Klora (deceased);Marva Lou Peterson (Jim);Sheldon Marvin (deceased); Roger Allen (Diana).Her husband, Charles Defriez, was killed in a coal mining accident, March 28, 1946.
She was left a widow with six small children, the youngest being four weeks old. She helped run the family farm and worked as a clerk in the local store to care for her family. She married Glenn E. Jones March 18, 1948. He and his children, Valaine Moffitt (Jack); Larry (deceased) (Dot); Catherine Nelson (Jim); Glenna Ann Kofford (Gary) joined her family.
Lavarda was an active member of the LDS church and held many leadership positions. She was a temple ordinance worker and filled a family history mission at the age of 80. She has outlived most of her friends, but is survived by sister Madge Guymon and Enid Miglorie. She will be missed by her family. Funeral services were held Sat., July 17, 2004 in the Hillcrest 3rd Ward, American Fork, Utah. Burial in Huntington City Cemetery.
Lavon Juvan
SPRING GLEN-Lavon Shirley Juvan, age 79, passed away suddenly at her home in Helper. She was born Aug. 12, 1924 in Price to Alma and Mabel Jensen Greenwood. She married Andy Juvan June 17, 1943 in Castle Dale.
Mom liked to crochet, sew, cook, garden (she had the most beautiful Flag iris in the county) and go fishing, but her greatest treasure on earth was her family, by whom she will be dearly missed.
Lavon is survived by her children: Shirley Johansen of Las Vegas; and Frances and Jerry Price of Spring Glen; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also survived by brother and sisters: George and Carol Greenwood, Joyce and Nick Nelson, Ella Santi and Lois and Horace Thayne; and her dog Wilbur. Preceded in death by her husband Andy, who was killed in a mining accident in 1963; brother, Bob Greenwood; sister Ruth Pace and brother-in-law Leon Pace.
Graveside services were held July 16 at 10 a.m. in the Price City Cemetery.
Virginia Hanks
PRICE – Virginia R. Hanks, 86, of Price, died Thursday in a local care center after a long illness.
Mrs. Hanks was born April 20, 1918, in Christopher, Ill., the daughter of Dominic and Anna Ronchetto. She married Michael Gamber on July 30, 1940 in Trinidad, Colo. Mr. Gamber died in 1955 and she was married to Howard P. Hanks from Aug. 18, 1963 until he passed away in 1997.
A graduate of the nursing program at St. Louis University, Mrs. Hanks was a nursing instructor at Carbon College from 1956 until 1958. She worked as a secretary in the U.S. Forest Service office in Price from 1958 until she joined the staff of the Bureau of Land Management in 1962. She eventually became the administrative officer for BLM offices of Price and Moab, retiring in 1978.
An active member of the Notre Dame Parish, Mrs. Hanks was a volunteer for more than 14 years at the Notre Dame School.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda G. (Brent) Keetch, Pismo Beach, Calif.; Martyanne (Mike) Donavan, Denver, Colo.; son, Michael R. (Stephanie) Gamber, Price; stepdaughter, Kayte Kirkwood, Baytown, Texas; five grandchildren, James and Richard Gamber, both of Price; Michelle Gillespie, Eagle Mountain; Gretchen Hains, Webster, Texas; and Lydia Scott, Baytown, Texas. She leaves four great-grandchildren. Her children express special thanks to the staff at Parkdale Care Center for the love and care given to their mother.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Parish Church. Visitation will take place one hour before the Mass at Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Committal will be in the Price City Cemetery.
