The Emery High Lady Spartans traveled to Mount Pleasant and Lehi last week to play region 8 volleyball and played well. The team defeated Lehi to secure a play-off spot 24-26, 15-25, 25-20, 25-18 and 15-10. They lost at North Sanpete 24-26, 23-25 and 26-28.
Against Lehi, the Spartan team came out flat and was off their game as Lehi easily won the first two games. The Spartans, with their backs against the wall, then played to their capabilities and knocked Lehi out of their own gym. Natalee Hanson and Ashley Hansen played well all night with Misty Nielson having a great last three games. The team played well as a team in the victory.
Against the Hawks, the Spartans played well as a team even though they lost in three straight games. The Hawks are the defending state champions and have a quality program. Playing the Hawks well should give the Spartans a winning attitude and help them to continue to play good.
The Spartans have four home games over the next two weeks as they play in the Spartan center Tuesday and Thursday nights.
This week they host Delta and Carbon and next week they host North Sanpete and Manti. Varsity game time is around 7 p.m. and the junior varsity game time is around 5:30 p.m.
