Canyon View Defeats San Rafael 22-8

Justin Miller catches the pass for Canyon View.

The Canyon View Junior High Cougars hosted the San Rafael Bulldog football team last Wednesday seeking to avenge an earlier in the season 2-point loss. They succeeded as they defeated San Rafael 22-8 in a game that saw a lot of offense but also some turnovers.
Both teams scored on their first possession of the game. For the Cougars, it was 9-yard run on a counter play by Mike Jones. For the Bulldogs, it was a 9-yard run by Jordon Gee.
Canyon view scored two more times in the game as Jones scored again on another 9-yard counter play and quarterback Blake Mortenson threw a 4-yard pass to tight end Justin Miller for another score.
Both teams were able to put some offense on to the field but turnovers hindered the scoring of San Rafael. In the second half, the Bulldogs turned the ball over three times, twice on fumbles and once on an interception.
Talking with assistant coach Chris Justice after, he said “We battled adversity all season but this team never quit. They executed the game plan really well and they played hard. The kids listened at half time and then went out and did it. They deserve this.”
The loss did not affect the Bulldogs league championship as they finished at 4-2 this season. Canyon View will battle Mont Harmon Wednesday for the opportunity to tie for second. The game is in Huntington at the school field.
