The Emery High Spartans are looking for answers as they prepare to play the Pine View Panthers Oct. 30 in the first round of state play-offs.
The Spartans finished fourth in the region after last week’s 35-0 loss in the rain and mud at Emery High School against the Lehi Pioneers.
Delta, North Sanpete and Lehi tied for the region championship as they each defeated Emery and Carbon this season and then Delta beat Lehi and Lehi beat North Sanpete and North Sanpete beat Delta last week.
Delta won the coin flip for the first place seed and will host Dixie. Lehi won the next flip and will host Snow Canyon. The Hawks travel to Cedar City.
In Emery’s loss to Lehi, the Spartans never were able to get anything going, as they were limited to only 47 yards of offense in the slippery game. Lehi’s Tyler Thompson must have brought the right shoes this night, as he was the only one able to move in the muck. He rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns.
The game for Emery is Saturday in St George at the Dixie college field just off the freeway. Game time is 1 pm.
