Christmas Trees
The Price Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management, 125 North 600 West, will sell Christmas tree permits for personal use Nov. 22-Dec. 23, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The tag cost is $5 per tree, with only one permit allowed per household.
Veterans Day Documentary
The Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Education and the History Channel have collaborated on the creation of The Story of Veterans Day, a youth oriented documentary which will be broadcast Nov. 11 on the History Channel.
D.R.O.P.S.
DROPS will be held Nov. 23 at the Fairgrounds at 500 East and 100 South, Castle Dale. Sign-ups begin at 11 a.m. You must be present to pick up a box. First come, first served. Do not block private driveways.
Emery County Historical Society
The Emery County Historical Society monthly meeting will be held Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. Max Finley, formerly of Morhland and author of Wildflowers of Castle Valley, will be the guest speaker. As a tribute to Veterans, he will speak about World War II. All veterans and their families are welcome to attend and will be honored. Morhland history will also be discussed. Come early for copies of the book.

Ferron Reads
Ferron Reads is still happening. Help Ferron meet the challenge of reading one million pages before Nov. 24. Currently the total is 927, 630. All Ferron residents are encouraged to record the number of pages they read at work, school or at home and turn it in to Ferron City Hall, Ferron Library or Ferron Elementary. A weekly update will be posted on the marquee at Ferron Elementary.
Single Womens Support Group Activity
We will be having a Single Womens Support Group activity on Nov. 11. We will be going to Price to see the movie The Polar Express at the King Koal Theater. Meet at the following places and we will car pool to Price. Those on the South end of the county, meet at the parking lot of the old Ferron Merc at 5:30 p.m. Those from Castle Dale and Orangeville meet at the Emery High School at 6 p.m. Those in Huntington and North meet at the church parking lot on Main Street in Huntington at 6:15 p.m. We will stop at each meeting place as we travel North through the county. H.E.A.T Program
The HEAT program is once again in operation. If you need assistance with your heating bills, call Kathy in Community Services at 381-5410 to schedule an appointment. The program runs from Nov. 1, 2004-March 31, 2005.

DUP Pheasant Hunter’s Breakfast
The DUP Lily of the Valley Camp in Elmo is holding their annual pheasant hunter’s breakfast and dinner fund raising event on Nov. 13. Breakfast at 7-10 a.m., lunch 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at the DUP building, 100 East 60 South, Elmo.
USDA Emergency Loans
On Sept. 15, Secretary Veneman designated 20 counties in Utah eligible for Farm Service Agency emergency loans due to production losses. These losses were a result of drought, insects, damaging wind and heat, that occurred Jan. 1 and continuing. Applications can be picked up at the Emery/Carbon County FSA Office, 88 South 100 East, Castle Dale, or call 1-435-381-2300.
CEU Bread and Soup Night
CEUs Bread and Soup night will be held Nov. 15, and 22, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. All proceeds go to the Carbon County Food Bank.
Emery Animal Shelter
Emery Animal Shelter is located a 470 West Hiway 29 in Castle Dale. Wonderful animals are ready for adoption: kittens, five, assorted colors; adult female Siamese. Puppies, two black lab females; adult black lab; adult male Pekinese, 7 years old; adult female Chesapeake, brown. Prices vary and all include spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. Veterans of Foreign Wars
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center on Nov. 18 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is free service to assist veterans in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits.
Genealogy and Family Heritage Jamboree
The Genealogy and Family Heritage Jamboree will hold its 2005 conference in St. George at Dixie Convention Center. There will be 63 classes in seven tracks, exhibits and speakers. For more information visit www.cgslink.com.

The comment period for the resource management plan, originally ending Oct. 15, has been extended 45 days, to end Nov. 29.

Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be doing hearing screening tests throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who does not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Food Handler’s Classes
Food handler’s classes will be held Nov. 17 and Dec. 8 at 9 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Ascension St. Matthew’s Church
The fall schedule for Ascension St. Matthew’s Church will be as follows: Sundays 9:30 a.m.-Sunday school for all ages; 10:30 a.m.-worship, followed by fellowship and refreshments with a potluck lunch on the first Sunday of each month. Emery Spartan Winter Cheer Camp
The Spartan cheerleaders are hosting a winter cheer camp. The six day camp will be held Nov. 16-17, 22-23, and 29-30. Registration will be held Nov. 10 at 3:20 p.m. at Orange-ville Elementary. The participants will perform at the first Emery Spartan girls basketball game during halftime on Nov. 23 and also the boys basketball game on Nov. 30. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Eyeglasses for Lions Club
The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
Power Wheelchairs
The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-246-6010.
Salvation Army
Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area.
