Shaylie Huntington spikes one over for Emery. |
The Emery High Spartan volleyball team worked hard to improve themselves this season as they faced the formidable task of playing in the best region in the state. Their season long quest paid off at the state tournament as they went 2-2 and finished eighth.
Emery started the tournament with Pine View, the Region 9 top seed. The Spartans lost in four games, 13-25, 25-28, 26-24 and 18-25. This is a game the Spartans wish they had over because they know they would win the second time around.
Emery moved to the consolation bracket and played Region 10’s #2 seed Uintah High Friday afternoon. In another exciting match they won 25-18, 17-25, 25-23 and 25-23.
Saturday morning found the Spartans playing another region 9 team, Hurricane High School. Emery again won in four games 25-27, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-1. The Spartans were a little sluggish out of the gate but once there they played really well.
In the game for sixth place, Emery found themselves against region foe North Sanpete. The ladies started strong winning two of the first thre games but could not hold on, as they appeared to run out of gas just a little. The scores were 25-19, 16-25, 25-17, 17-25 and 15-8. Seniors Misty Nielson, Mandi Weihing, Krista Ungerman, Jerica Jensen and Adrian McNee will be missed but there will be plenty of talent back for next season.
