Christmas Concert
The Huntington Glee Club and Women’s Chorus will present an evening of Christmas music Dec. 19, Huntington LDS Stake Center, 7:30 p.m. featuring “Babe of Bethlehem” narrative from James E. Talmage; musical setting by Charles Cardin.
Winter Arts Festival
The Winter Arts Festival, sponsored by the Emery County Arts Council, scheduled for Dec. 10, has been cancelled.
Notice to all Residents
Any preschool, school, church, business or other organization in Emery County that is having a Christmas Program and wishes to have photos taken by the Emery County Progress, should inform the Progress office of the time and date of the program. We will be happy to come to your program, take photos and add them to the photos that are run in the paper for the Christmas editions.
DUP Christmas Social
The Emery County Company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold their annual Christmas social on Dec. 6 at noon in the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale. All Emery County DUP members are welcome to attend. Contact your captain to make reservations.
Youth City Councils
The youth city councils will hold an ice blocking party at 10 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the Ferron Church hill. Chili, hot chocolate and donuts will be served.
Forgotten Patients
Gifts for the Forgotten Patient program which benefits patients, ages 6-90, at the Utah State Hospital. Donations and gifts may be sent to Forgotten Patient Christmas Project, 1300 East Center Street, Provo, UT 84606, or items may be taken into the Emery County Progress Office where a box is available for drop off, and items will be forwarded.
Cleveland F.D. Benefit
The Cleveland fire department will host a benefit for Gerald “Fats” Schade, who recently underwent surgery and is without medical insurance. The raffle will be held Jan. 19, 2005 and tickets are available at Country Corner in Cleveland, BK’s and Castle Service in Huntington. Tickets are also available from any member of the Cleveland Fire Department.
4-H Shooting Sports

Flu Shots Available
The Southeastern Utah District Health Department in Castle Dale now has influenza vaccine available for the general public. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Senior Citizen Christmas Party

Castle Dale Stake Sing-In
Castle Dale Stake will have a Christmas sing-in on Dec. 5 immediately following the LDS First Presidency Christmas Devotional, at approximately 7 p.m. It will be held at the Castle Dale Stake Center on Main and Center streets. Cleveland Town Council Meeting Change
The December meeting for the Cleveland Town Council has been changed from Dec. 9 to Dec. 16, at the Cleveland Town Hall, 7 p.m. The Cleveland Town Council encourages all residents to be involved in the progressive improvement of the community.
Tom’s Trail Information
There is a road onto East Mountain near the Des-Bee-Dove mine, called Tom’s Trail. It is not the road above the mine, but east of the mine. Little is known of this trail and I am looking for anyone with any history of Tom’s Trail. Anyone with information, such as who built it, who it was named for, or any other part of the history of this trail, contact Mark H Williams at 435-381-2493.

Christmas Trees
The Price Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management, 125 North 600 West, will sell Christmas tree permits for personal use until Dec. 23, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The tag cost is $5 per tree, with only one permit allowed per household.

Ferron Reads
Ferron Read is still happening. Help Ferron meet the challenge of reading 1 million pages before Nov. 24. Currently the total is 927, 630. All Ferron residents are encouraged to record the number of pages they read at work, school or at home and turn it in to Ferron City Hall, Ferron Library or Ferron Elementary. A weekly update will be posted on the marquee at Ferron Elementary.

USDA Emergency Loans
On Sept. 15, Secretary Veneman designated 20 counties in Utah eligible for Farm Service Agency emergency loans due to production losses. These losses were a result of drought, insects, damaging wind and heat, that occurred Jan. 1 and continuing. Emery Animal Shelter
Emery Animal Shelter is located a 470 West Hiway 29 in Castle Dale. Animals are ready for adoption: kittens, adult female siamese, two gray tabbies, and one solid gray. Genealogy and Family Heritage Jamboree

Ascension St. Matthew’s Church

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Eyeglasses for Lions Club
