Last week the Green River Pirates outscored two opponents to improve the season record to 2-1. On Tuesday, they outscored Wayne High 65-54 to gain their first win of the season. On Thursday, they added another win with a victory over Piute 63-56.
Against Wayne, the Pirates outscored their opponent in three of the four quarters and tied them in the other, as Green River led at the half 35-25.
Leading the Green River scoring attack was Jake Mecham with 20 points, Kaden Robertson with 16 points and Cody Webster with 15 points. Also scoring were Kaleb Fail with eight, Hyrum Mitchell with four and Brent Johnson with two points. Robertson hit three 3-pointers and Green River was 8-12 from the free throw line.
Against Piute, the Pirates trailed after the first quarter 16-10 and at the half 31-24. Green River came back in the third quarter to outscore their opponent 25-19 and to trail by one at 50-49. Green River then won the fourth quarter and the game as they outscored Piute 14-6.
Mecham again was the leading scorer with 25 points and Robertson added 15 more. Also scoring were Webster with nine, Mitchell with six, Parker Hatt with five and Johnson with three points. Robertson again hit three 3-pointers and the Pirates were 18-28 from the free throw line.
