SRJH will be participating in the following activities through December: wrestling tournament at CVJH, Dec. 15 beginning at 9 a.m.; winter band concert, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.; and a Christmas dance, Dec. 17 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Angel trees are set up at Emery Telcom, Desertview Credit Union in Ferron and Huntington branches. Bring unwrapped gifts back to the businesses by Dec. 20. Everyone welcome to participate.

Womens Volleyball


Emery County womens volleyball league is holding sign ups now. Call Nicole Denison at 687-2638 or Tiffany Conover at 384-2272 to sign up teams. Deadline is Dec. 31.

Emery Animal Shelter


Emery Animal Shelter is located at 470 West Highway 29 in Castle Dale. Animals are ready for adoption: kittens, four assorted; cats, one female adult, and one male adult. Puppies, two mixed breed; one female ShihTzu adult, one female red Australian shepherd; and two black labs. Prices vary and all include spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. King of the Mountain


The Jeep King of the Mountain Series Ski and Snowboard Championships will be held at Snowbird Resort Dec. 18-19. For more information visit www.jeepsports.com.
On Dec. 18 at Gad Valley at 10:30 a.m. local skiers and boarders can participate in an open qualifier to try to win a spot on Dec. 19 for prize money of $150,000. To register for this open qualifier contact denise@eclipsetv.net

Awards for Educators and Community Leaders

Women’s Achievement Award


Nominations are now being accepted for the Women’s Achievement Award. The Utah Commission for Women and Families is searching for Utah women who have made significant contributions to women and families in our state. Dance Night


Come enjoy an evening of dancing or listening with The Val Jensen Band at the Cleveland Town Hall. Dancing, line dancing, refreshments, held monthly at 7 p.m. There will be an admission fee.

Notice to all Residents


Any preschool, school, church, business or other organization in Emery County that is having a Christmas Program and wishes to have photos taken by the Emery County Progress, should inform the Progress office of the time and date of the program. We will be happy to come to your program, take photos and add them to the photos that are run in the paper for the Christmas editions. Call 381-2431 to get on our calendar.

Forgotten Patients


Gifts for the Forgotten Patient program which benefits patients, ages 6-90, at the Utah State Hospital is underway. Donations and gifts may be sent to Forgotten Patient Christmas Project, 1300 East Center Street, Provo, UT 84606, or items may be taken into the Emery County Progress Office at 410 East Main in Castle Dale where a box is available for drop off, and items will be forwarded.

Cleveland Fire Department Benefit Raffle


The Cleveland fire department will host a benefit for Gerald “Fats” Schade, who recently underwent surgery and is without medical insurance. The raffle will be held Jan. 19, 2005 and tickets are available at Country Corner in Cleveland, BK’s and Castle Service in Huntington. Tickets are also available from any member of the Cleveland Fire Department.

Support Group for Parents


Grief support group for parents who have lost a child will be held Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the classroom at Castleview Hospital, 300 North Hospital Drive, Price. For more information contact 637-4800, ext. #4018 or 820-0287.

Flu Shots Available


The Southeastern Utah District Health Department in Castle Dale now has influenza vaccine available for the general public. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Cleveland Town Council Meeting


The December meeting for the Cleveland Town Council has been changed from Dec. 9 to Dec. 16. The meeting will be held at the Cleveland Town Hall at 7 p.m. The Cleveland Town Council encourages all residents to be involved in the progressive improvement of the community.
