Zions Bank continues its long-held holiday tradition this year, inviting elementary school students from throughout the state to decorate a Christmas tree with handmade ornaments in the lobby of each Zions Bank branch. The bank provides the lighted tree and students contribute ornaments they make themselves. In return for the creative decorations, bank branches make cash donations to each participating school.
This year, Huntington Elementary kindergarten through sixth grade students decorated a tree inside Zions Bank’s Huntington office on Dec. 2. Students, teachers, parents and Zions Bank employees gathered in the branch’s lobby for the Lights On ceremony.
Zions Bank presented a contribution of 35 cents per ornament to the school, and participants sang Christmas carols, met Santa Claus and enjoyed refreshments. The tree will be on display in the bank’s lobby through the holidays.
In addition, Cottonwood Elementary students celebrated Lights On at Zions Bank’s Castle Dale branch on Dec. 8, at 4:30 p.m. Zions will make a contribution to the school and students will have the opportunity to meet a visitor from the North Pole.
“We have been hosting ‘Lights On’ for nearly 17 years now,” said Ed Christianson, manager at Zions Bank’s Huntington office.”It’s always been a great opportunity to bring school children and their parents together in celebration of the holiday spirit.”
More than 60 Utah and Idaho elementary schools will participate in Zions Bank’s Lights On holiday celebration this year. In addition, a number of Zions Bank branches have invited students from low-income neighborhoods and special-needs children to decorate the trees in their lobbies. Zions Bank has been inviting students to participate in this annual holiday event for more than 33 years.
