Single Women Support Group

Rock Art Studies
A lecture and book signing by Dr. Ray T. Matheny, for his book New Dimensions in Rock Art Studies will be held Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the CEU Prehistoric Museum classroom. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Valentine’s Carnival

Huntington Dog Licenses
The Huntington City 2005 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented before license can be issued Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Dog licenses may be purchased at the Huntington City Hall or at the rabies clinic which will be held at the Huntington City Fire Station on Jan. 29 with Dr. Glen Jensen and Feb. 26 with Dr. Brent Griggs. Both clinics will be from 9 a.m.-noon.

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Conference Aimed at Private Forest Owners
Utah will once again be hosting a Forest Taxation and Estate Planning Conference on Jan. 26-27 at the Provo Marriott. The seminar is designed for individuals who own forested land. The conference will help property owners understand the basics of estate planning, financial management and tax issues associated with owning forestland. The conference speakers are USDA Forest Service specialists who focus on helping landowners manage their finances and taxes in an understandable and interesting way. Families control 42 percent of the nation’s forests. One of the highest priorities for these family forest owners is passing property to heirs, according to the National Woodland Owner Survey. YouthLINC Scholarship
The YouthLINC Service Scholarship aims to recognize the top five young humanitarians in the state of Utah. All high school and college aged students are eligible to apply. We are hoping that by rewarding young people for dedicated service to their communities, we will encourage other young people to become involved in helping others. High School Students
The Interamerican University Studies Institute will offer two programs in Latin America this summer for high school students. Costa Rica, Pura Vida, focustes on biology and includes Spanish immersion as weel. Artes en Mexico provides an opportunity to work with professional Mexican arts teachers while improving Spanish skills. Individual homestays, excursions and small group instruction are features of both. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15 and 17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships available for each program. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
