Castle Dale Book Fair


Castle Dale Elementary Book Fair will be held Feb. 23-25. The open house will be on Feb. 23 from 6:30-8 p.m. The fair will be during school hours Feb. 23-25.

Huntington Elementary Kindergarten Registration


Kindergarten registration for Huntington Elementary School will be held Feb. 28 from 8 a.m.-noon. Those with last names beginning with A-I come from 9-10 a.m., names beginning with J-R come from 10-11 a.m., and names beginning with S-Z come from 11 a.m.-noon.

Eagle Scout Project Needs Donations


Zac Smith, a scout from Huntington, is making school and hygiene kits for the humanitarian aid project for the tsunami victims as his Eagle Scout project. Donations for both kits are needed by Feb. 19 and the kits will be put together by the scouts. Call 687-9422 for a list of items needed or for more information.

Cleveland/Elmo Youth


We are looking for any youth (ninth grade to seniors) interested in being active in the Cleveland/Elmo youth town councils. Parent/Teacher Conference at SRJH


All parents of students attending San Rafael Junior High School are encouraged to attend the parent/teacher conferences to be held Feb. 9 from 3:30-9:30 p.m. The conferences will be held at the school.

DAV


The DAV will meet March 12 at 3 p.m. at the Price Senior Citizens Center. There will be a pot luck meal.

County Youth Leadership Councils


Emery County Youth Leadership councils are sponsoring a food drive and humanitarian drive to help the Utah Food Bank fill the shelves back up and help those victims of disasters with clothes. This is where we need you. Bring your food items to your city hall or to your elementary school and there you will find a box to drop off your items. This is a service project for our youth leadership conference to be held April 16. We are trying to see which city can collect the most of these items so ready…set…bring on the drive. Help your YCC be the best. This drive will run from Feb. 1-April 16. We are hoping to have so much food that the Utah Food Bank has to bring down big trucks to take it back and also that the news stations will have to come to Emery County for our great deed. Give a little…help a little…we need you.

Raffle to Benefit Wild Turkeys


Browning Arms has manufactured a specially engraved, one-of-a-kind Citori 12-gauge shotgun for National Wild Turkey Federation’s Utah’s statewide raffle. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts


Wanted to participate in the Buckhorn District Scouting Expo to be held March 12 at Emery High School. All packs and troops are encouraged to have a booth or exhibit. The Expo will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and booths should be set up the evening before. Anyone interested should contact Laren Huntsman at 381-5185 to make arrangements for a booth. The more booths, exhibits and participation that we have the more fun and successful it will be. Those that sign up early will get their first choice on booth location.

Cleveland Rabies Clinic


Cleveland Town will sponsor a rabies clinic on Feb. 26 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Cemetery storage building, 200 North 600 East. Dr. Griggs will be the vet this year. All dogs are required to have a current rabies shot before they can be licensed for the new year.
All dogs must be licensed by Feb. 28.

County Girls Softball


Emery County Girls Softball is looking for representatives from each of the towns and also need to form a new Board of Directors for the 2005 softball season. Community Theater


Emery County Community Theater presents Shenandoah on Feb. 10, 11, 12, and 14 at 7 p.m. each night in the Emery High School auditorium. Thursday night is senior discount night, with a discount for those 55 and older.

Valentine’s Carnival


The ninth annual Valentine’s Carnival will be held on Feb. 11 at the Huntington Elementary Gym from 5-7:30 p.m. Games, fortune teller, food and fun for the entire family. Cake walk, coin toss, stuffed animals and much more. Tickets 10 for $1.00.

Huntington Dog Licenses


The Huntington City 2005 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented before license can be issued. Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Dog licenses may be purchased at the Huntington City Hall or at the rabies clinic which will be held at the Huntington City Fire Station on Feb. 26 with Dr. Brent Griggs. Clinic will be from 9 a.m.-noon.

Relay for Life

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

YouthLINC Service Scholarship


The YouthLINC Service Scholarship aims to recognize the top five young humanitarians in the state of Utah. All high school and college aged students are eligible to apply. We are hoping that by rewarding young people for dedicated service to their communities, we will encourage other young people to become involved in helping others. Tsunami Relief


United Way International, United Way of American and many other United Way charities are working together with disaster response partners to assess and address the wide range, long term response and recovery needs of communities in Southern Asia severely impacted by tsunami waves recently. High School Students


The Interamerican University Studies Institute will offer two programs in Latin America this summer for high school students. Costa Rica, Pura Vida, focuses on biology and includes Spanish immersion as well. Artes en Mexico provides an opportunity to work with professional Mexican arts teachers while improving Spanish skills. Individual homestays, excursions and small group instruction are features of both. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15 and 17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships available for each program. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
