Bertha Elsie Denison
PRICE-Bertha Elsie Denison, age 90, passed away Feb. 1, 2005 in Elmo. She was born Aug. 28, 1914 in Emery to Arthur M. and Virtue Arvella Duzett Anderson. She married Miles LeMar Denison on Nov. 2, 1933 in Manti, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on May 4, 1956.
Bertha enjoyed quilting, doll making, gardening and oil painting. As an active member of the LDS Church she served in numerous callings including: Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She served a full time mission as an ordinance worker in the Chicago, Illinois LDS Temple. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served as a volunteer with the Pink Ladies in Castleview Hospital. She worked as a cook in the school lunch program at Carbon High School for many years.
Bertha is survived by her children: Donald and Noleena Denison, Sandra and Corky Nichols, all of Price, LuAnn and Hal Bishop of North Salt Lake, Jerry and Lee Denison of St. George, Robert and Lorrie Denison of Huntington and Carol Lupo of Green River, Wyo.; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers: Robert and Dwaine Anderson of Emery and sister Bessie Christman of Price. Preceded in death by her husband, son Larry A. Denison, one granddaughter and one grandson, parents, brothers: Elmo Anderson, Melburn Anderson, and Lyle Anderson and sister Bonnie Petty.
Funeral services were held Sat. Feb. 6, 2005 at noon in the Price North Stake Center located at 100 East and 400 North in Price. Friends called Friday evening and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial was in the Price City Cemetery.
Steve Papazaharis
PRICE-Steven Lee Papazaharis, age 50, passed away suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Price. He was born Nov. 17, 1954 in Price to Steve and Millie Marse Papazaharis.
Steve was a devout Catholic and he was very active in his church and faith. He was an officer and member of the Knights of Columbus and strong supporter of many other church activities.
Steve attended local schools and graduated from the University of Utah. He was highly involved in sports, enjoyed coaching various Little League programs, and proudly displayed his favorite teams,on the hats and clothing that he wore. Steve was always first to care for his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
Survived by his cousins, Paul (Judy) Liapis; Gus (Sharon) Liapis and their children Matthew, Andrea, Philip, Stephanie, Scott and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Mass was held Sat. Feb. 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service was Friday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home. Friends were welcomed at Mitchell’s on Saturday. Committal service, Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Notre Dame Catholic Church.
Ann Tays
AUBURN, CALIF./HELPER-Ann Wilcox Armstrong Tays, age 102, died Jan. 27, 2005 in Auburn, Calif. She was born Sept. 29, 1902 in Castle Dale, daughter of James Henry and Harriet Ann Day Wilcox. Married Frank Armstrong in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1965. Married Havelock E. Tays in 1967, Havelock was work director in the Kenilworth Ward for many years. He died in 1994.
Survived by her son, Jack W. Armstrong and wife, Nadine; son-in-law, Jim Domire; grandchildren, Mark Armstrong, Vicki Van Hook, Carrie Beck, Rollin and Douglas Domire; great-grandchildren, Alec and Christopher Armstrong, Jimmie Stewart, Deanna, Jamie and Dallas Domire. Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and seven brothers, her daughter, Frances Ann Domire preceded her in death in 2000.
Funeral service, Sat. Feb. 12, 2005, noon, Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment Price City Cemetery. Deon Thomas Dolinski
HELPER/LOGAN-Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Deon Thomas Dolinski, age 67, passed away Feb. 6, 2005 in Price. She was born Feb. 6, 1938 in Rigby, Idaho to Hannah Mae Thomas and Clarence Smith.
When Deon was 6 years old, her mother passed away and she was raised by other family members until she came to live in a foster home with Vernon and LaVon Fredrickson of Avon, Utah. They raised her along with their children, and loved her as their own.
Deon graduated from South Cache High School in 1956 and later met and married Jerry Dolinski on May 18, 1962 in Smithfield. She was a resident of Carbon County for 39 years, where they raised four children. She worked for JC Penney’s where she met and made many friends over the years. She helped support her husband in their apartment rental business.
Member of the LDS Church, where she held several callings. She loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays and birthdays. She loved reading novels, watching her John Wayne movies, crocheting, making quilts, playing cards with friends, and going to Wendover.
Deon was a very kind, loving, caring, and giving person who touched everyone’s life she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survived by her loving husband, Jerry Dolinski, Helper; son Randy (Tina) Dolinski, Helper; daughters, Deborah (David) Pilling, Price; Sherri Thorsen, Price; Dawna (Lou) Nickel, Baltimore, Ohio; and her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews in Logan; special friend, Renate Nickel, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many close friends she leaves behind. Preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Steven and Jean Dolinski; foster parents, Vernon and LaVon Fredrickson; cousin, Beth Pebley; friend, Veda Madrigal; son-in-law Rocky Thorsen; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Nan Baker
PRICE-Nanette Hall Baker, age 51, passed away peacefully Feb. 4, 2005. She was born Oct. 4, 1953 in Price to Chester Lee and LeDonna Atwood Hall. Married Joe C. Baker April 29, 1979 in Price.
Nan was a resident of Carbon County and a longtime employee of Price Swifts Stop N Shop. She served as the Carbon High Colorguard leader from 1990-1992 and was also director of the Miss Carbon County Pageant in 1992. Nan was awarded the Carbon County Community Service Award in 1996 for her distinguished community involvement. She will be dearly missed by her family and countless friends.

Pace Boyack
HELPER-Franklin Pace Boyack, Jr., age 68, passed away on Feb. 6, 2005 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born March 7, 1936 in Provo to Franklin Pace Boyack, Sr. and Elda Ames. Married Jean Sunter, Feb. 23, 1962 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Pace was a longtime resident of Carbon County, where he worked for over 30 years with the railroad. He enjoyed camping, collecting canteens and railroad memorabilia. Pace loved animals and was the caretaker for all the cats in the neighborhood. He was very interested in history and served in the US Air Force. He enjoyed building, remodeling and he excelled at carpentry.
Pace loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by his wife, Jean Boyack, Helper; son, Tom and Johnna Boyack, Helper; daughter, Wendy and Colin Morf, Hillsborough, Calif.; granddaughters, Ashley and Rachel Boyack, both of Helper; two brothers and three sisters, Earl and Francis Standley, Campbell, Calif.; Jackie Stone, Huntington; Pricilia and John Westenskow, Price; Joan and John Piercy, Price; Pat and Mary Boyack, Helper. Preceded in death by parents, three brothers, Monte and Lester Standley and Jim Boyack.

Margaret Martinez
EAST CARBON-Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, godmother and friend, Margaret Mary Martinez, age 79, died Feb. 3, 2005. She was born Aug. 11, 1925 in Ignacio, Colo. to Luis and Carlota Gallegos Martinez. Married Joe C. Martinez, Jan. 27, 1945 in Dragerton.
Mom’s love of God and country was inspirational. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Women Society and received Woman of the Year in 1993. Member East Carbon Senior Citizens and dedicated volunteer for RSVP.
Margaret enjoyed nature, bingo, her Wendover trips and riding around in her old blue truck, but most of all, Mom loved her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by three daughters, Gloria (Jun) Sasaki, San Jose, Calif.; Corrina (Eddie) Doporto, Sunnyside; Sandra (Khalid) Sheikh, Price; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers, Elvira (Jesus) Martinez, Salida, Colo.; Teresa (Pete) Chacon, Denver, Colo.; Clorinda (Ray) Wagner, Beaumont, Calif.; Carmen Walker, Pasco, Wash.; Fred (Rose Mary) Muniz, Riverside, Calif.; Ray (Dolores) Muniz, Payson; Lee (Alice) Muniz, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by parents, son Kenneth and brother Gilbert.

Rose Crandall
HELPER-Rose Zele Crandall, age 84, passed away Feb. 3, 2005 in Price while surrounded by her loving family. Born Oct. 7, 1920 in Mohrland, to Frank and Rosa Nevlan Zele. Married Dallas Crandall, Jan. 25, 1941 in Helper.
Member St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she was a loyal supporter of the Knights of Columbus and other church activities. Member S.N.P.J. Lodge #113 and the Slovenian Home in Spring Glen,.
Rose enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening and watching her favorite TV soaps.
Survived by her loving husband, Dallas Crandall; three daughters, Rose Marie (Charles) Hinton, Betty Pope, Pat (Dane) Larsen; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Frank, Tony, John, Stanley, Bill; and sister, Julie.
Funeral service, Tues. Feb. 8, 2005, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service was Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family was a the church on Monday evening, and will be at the church one hour prior to service Tuesday. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Earlene D. Gibson
Noted Community Leader Dies at 86
PRICE-Noted community leader and lifelong Carbon County resident, Earlene D. Gibson, 86, died Feb. 2, 2005 in Price. She was born Feb. 11, 1918 in Castle Gate to Earl and Deseret Parmley Durrant. She was educated in Carbon County schools, received an undergraduate degree in education from the University of Utah and also attended the University of Southern California. In 1971, she received a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah.
Married Hal G. MacKnight in 1944 in Price. Until 1966, the family owned and operated the Sun Advocate newspaper in Price. The couple later divorced and Hal died in 1983. She married David H. Gibson in 1972 in Evanston, Wyo.; he also died in 1983.
Mrs. Gibson taught at Carbon High School in the early 1940s and returned to education again in 1966, when she began a teaching and counseling career at the College of Eastern Utah. She later retired from the college as Dean of Women.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Scott. G. and Charlotte MacKnight, Price; two granddaughters, Corinna Poole and Kira MacKnight, both of Price; also survived by two great-grandsons, Jarett and Nicholas Zamantakis, of Price. Preceded in death by a son, Richard (Dick) MacKnight, who passed away on June 18, 2003.
A multi-talented and highly respected woman, she was also an accomplished pianist and actress. Mrs. Gibson performed in and directed a variety of community musical and theater productions. She had an extensive network of friends and acquaintances across the state. She will be remembered for her talents, intelligence, grace, and her unselfish, genuine love of people.
Funeral service was held Sat. Feb. 5, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Community Theater of Carbon County.
