Steven Giles, Josh Eden and Jordan Gee all head for home on a grand slam homer by Trevor Thompson.

After battling back in the bottom of the sixth inning with six runs to tie the score, the Emery Spartans were defeated by Lehi in nine innings 10-9.
Trailing 9-3, the Lehi starting pitcher gave up a walk to AJ Mitcheson, a single to Landon Thomas, a single to pinch-hitter Steven Giles, another walk to Josh Eden and another walk to pinch-hitter Jordon Gee. After a pitching change by Lehi, Trevor Thompson hit a grand slam home run as the ball cleared the left center field fence and the score was tied at 9-9.
In the seventh inning, both teams went down with two strikeouts and a ground out.
The eighth inning saw Emery make a pitching change from Conlee Luke to Josh Eden. Lehi went down on a strikeout, pop up to first base and a ground out to the shortstop. Emery had a strikeout, walk and a ball hit into a double play.
In the ninth inning, Lehi’s lead off batter hit a homerun to give Lehi the lead and Emery was scoreless in the bottom of the inning to give Lehi the region victory.

AJ Mitcheson secures the ball for the out at first base.

Emery took the early lead in the ballgame as AJ Mitcheson and Landon Thomas led off the second inning with homeruns over the left field fence to put Emery up 2-0.
Lehi grabbed the lead in the top of the third inning as combined four singles, two doubles and a several Emery errors to score seven runs. Emery had the opportunity to limit the Lehi runs but they had an inning that puts gray hair on a coach’s head.
Before the game, coach Jimmy Jones was talking about his team, “We are coming, this team is getting there. Now that the temperature is warming up, I’m hoping that we do too. Our hitting has been good, our pitching is coming around and we are getting better defensively.”
Coach Jones hit it right on the head as his two pitchers, Luke and Eden pitched well and Emery hit the ball well as they scored nine runs with nine hits.
Emery also scored in the fourth inning as Mitcheson and Thomas singled and Mitcheson scored on an Eden single.
Emery will be at home this week Tuesday against North Sanpete before traveling to Delta on Friday.
