I think Mormons are hoping to capitalize on the death of Pope John Paul ll, they keep insisting they have the same position on moral issues like abortion as the Pope did. See (John Wrights forum 4-10-05 S.L. Tribune and Richard Holtzapfel BYU religion professor Deseret News article 4-3-05). Nothing could be further from the truth. The Catholic Church opposes all abortions without exceptions, while the LDS church officially allows abortions in the cases of rape, incest, deformity, risk to life and risk to the health of the mother (Gordon Hinckley Ensign Magazine 11-98 pg.71). Mormons use basically the same wording and position as Roe vs. Wade which legalized abortion in America as many Mormon Democrats well know.
