The Emery High track team had their best region track meet in years last week. Hosting the event in Castle Dale, the Emery boys finished second and the Emery girls finished third.
The boy’s scores were Lehi 109, Emery 90, North Sanpete 80, Delta 47 and Carbon 8.
The girl’s scores were Delta 119.5, Lehi 78.5, Emery 58, North Sanpete 49 and Carbon 27.
The Emery boy’s had four first places on the day. Bruce Clement won the shot put with a 48’10.5″ throw and the discus with a 147’4″ throw. Travis Bunderson won the high jump with a jump of 6’4″. Emery also won the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:35.78.
Finishing second for the Spartans were Eric Waddups in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Tate Jensen finished second in the long jump and the 4×100 relay team also finished second.
Finishing third for Emery were Taylor Jensen in the 400 meters, Dave Justice in the 300 hurdles, Zac Clement in the javelin and the discus, Kassidy Thompson in the long jump and the Medley relay team.
Finishing fourth were Joaquin Ortega in the 100 meters, Justin Bernard in the 800 meters, Bruce Clement in the javelin and Derek Jensen in the high jump.
Finishing fifth were Jex Jensen in the 1600 meters and Cole Bunderson in the high jump.
Camille Fehlberg took three firsts for the girl’s team. She won the 100 hurdles in 15.57, the 300 hurdles in 45.947 and the long jump at 15’11.5″.
Charlotte Withers finished second in the shot put and Laura Cook finished second in the javelin. The 1600 medley relay team also finished second.
Finishing third were Shalae Cox in the 400-meter run and Jacie Fasselin in the 800-meter run.
Finishing fourth were Laura Cook in the shot and Charlotte Withers in the discus. Jasha Hinkins finished fifth in the long jump.
The State track meets are held this week at BYU on Friday and Saturday. Everyone that finished at least fourth in region moves on to state plus any that qualified in previous track meets by distance or time.
