The Emery High baseball season came to close with two losses in the opening weekend of the 3-A state baseball tournament. Pine View defeated Emery 8-5 and then Ben Lomond finished off the Spartans 2-1.
In the tournament opener, Emery faced the Pine View Panthers who finished second in Region 9 behind Snow Canyon. Pine View had a record of 13-5. Josh Eden began the first inning with a homerun and also hit a homerun in the seventh inning.
In the second ball game of the day, Emery faced the Ben Lomond Scots, Region 8’s fourth place team. Ben Lomond had a record of 5-15.
The Uintah Utes were the host team for the day as they were the first place team in Region 10. Uintah was 14-4 coming in to the day.
Uintah defeated Ben Lomond 3-1 before losing to Pine View 6-2. All three of these teams advanced to St. George this week to continue the tournament.
Emery met all three of these teams in the first two weeks of the season. Emery defeated Uintah 4-2 to start the season, defeated Ben Lomond 17-9 in a tournament in St George and lost to Pine View 11-5, also in St George.
