Colton Petersen
Colton “Colt” Petersen, age 29, of Roosevelt, formerly of Ferron, passed from this world on May 4, 2005.
He was born Dec. 28, 1975 in Mt. Pleasant, to Gary T. and Sandra Anderson Petersen. He married Amanda Jo Dixon Aug. 28, 1998 in Elko, Nev.
Colton loved living, he found joy in everything that he did, which included: spending time with his family, hunting, rodeo, cat fishing, dancing the country swing and much more. He was a comedian/storyteller who brightened every room that he entered. He was an excellent welder, horseman, farrier, and all around handy man. He took pride in his work and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a kind and generous soul. He adored his children and was a loving and proud father. He was a generous and caring husband and was in turn adored as a husband, father, brother and son.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Amanda, children Shane, Aiden and Lea Rose all of Upalco, Utah; mother Sandra (Larry) Boren, Ferron; father Gary T. Petersen, Ephraim; one brother Larry Adam, Orangeville; five sisters Monique (Brad) Kiser, Rawlins, Wyo., Lori (Kelly) Hess, Devona (Ryan) Case, Evanston, Wyo., JoLynn Huntington, Teddi (Kris) Riley, Orangeville; and grandmother Clara Petersen, Ephraim.
Memorial services held Sat., May 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Altamont Stake Center. Arrangements handled by the Hullinger Mortuary.
Layne Willson
ELMO-Layne Ellis Willson, age 45, died May 14, 2005, in Price. He was born Jan. 12, 1960 in Price to Ellis and LouJean Willson. He married Marie Lindsey on Dec. 19, 1980, in Wellington. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on Dec. 18, 1982.
He is survived by his wife Marie, daughter and son-in-law Tara and Brett Jensen, father Ellis, mother LouJean, father-inlaw Marcus H. Lindsey, brother Marvon and Alicia Willson, sisters Kristy and David Prettyman, Terry Erison, Jerry and Edward Chavez, brother-in-law Leonard and Barb Lindsey, sister-in-law Elizabeth Lindsey, grandmother Ada Willson, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his grandparents.
There will be a viewing held on Wed., May 18, at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South, Price, from 6-8 p.m. and a funeral will be held in his honor on Thurs. May 19 at the Wellington 1st/4th ward LDS chapel at 100 East Main at 1 p.m. with a viewing one hour prior. He will be buried in the Wellington City Cemetery.
Shirley Couch
Well Done, Thou Good and Faithful Servant
Shirley Elizabeth Jensen Couch, 81, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2005 in Nephi, Juab County, Utah. Born April 17, 1924 in Huntington, Emery County, Utah to Rosel J and Flora Mable Johnson Jensen.
She graduated from North Emery High in Huntington in 1942, where she was in 4-H, many clubs, plays, and musicals. She was salutatorian of her graduating class. She graduated from LDS Seminary and earned a Golden Gleaner Award. After graduating from Utah State Agricultural College, she taught elementary school in Tooele County, Salt Lake School District, and Granite School District for 16 years. She received a masters degree from the University of Utah in 1969 and was a counselor at Granite High School for 15 years, making a total of 31 years in education.
Shirley was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She interrupted her teaching career in 1962-64 to serve a LDS mission in the Florida Mission. She served in many positions in the church including the LDS singles program for 22 years.
Shirley spent her entire life serving others, her family, church and education. She was a very busy, loving and loved lady.
Survived by her daughter Rebecca (Becky) and Doug (JD) Roberts, Fairview; three grandchildren, Gregory (Cindy) Roberts, Salt Lake City; Kimberly Roberts, Ephraim; Kristen (Steven) Hacking, Vernal; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Roberts, Chad, Scott, Todd, Rick, and Karra Elizabeth Hacking; four sisters, Bertha Mae (Phil) Edmunds, Enoch; Joan (Jerry) Huntsman, Sandy; Beverly Petersen, Salt Lake City; and Bessie Gay (Karl) Burkholz, Salt Lake City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, R. Zen Jensen, her granddaughter Lisa Dawn Roberts, and her brother-in-law Elliott R. Petersen.
Funeral services will be Tues. May 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Olympus Fifth Ward chapel, 3030 Nila Way, Salt Lake City. A viewing was held the previous evening and prior to services. Graveside services will be held the same day in the Huntington City Cemetery at 4 p.m. The family would like to express thanks to Iris, Gary and staff at Baker’s Assisted Living Center in Fairview for the loving care they gave to Shirley, and to Dr. Allen Day, for his care and concern. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimers or diabetes research or to the LDS Missionary or Perpetual Fund.
Jesse Gene Brinkerhoff
HUNTINGTON-Jesse Gene Brinkerhoff beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother returned to his Father in Heaven May 11, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was born April 21, 1930, in Emery to Lloyd and Zella Maxfield Brinkerhoff. He had six sisters and five brothers. Married Ila Rae Roundy Aug. 2, 1947, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple Aug. 7, 1957.
Jesse was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his lifetime companion, Rae, served two full time missions to the Oregon Portland and Canada Halifax missions. They devoted their lives to serving the Lord. Jesse loved his family and was a good example. He served in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. He was the manager of Zions Bank in Huntington for 10 years, after which he owned and managed JJ’s Family Store alongside his wife. Jesse loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was his family.
Survived by his wife, Rae, of Huntington, his seven children and their spouses, Richard and Terri Brinkerhoff of Kaysville, Gary and Carla Brinkerhoff of Salem, Jeanette Sorensen of Orangeville, Glenda and Kyle Hansen of Huntington, Scott and Lisa Brinkerhoff of Huntington, Ralene and Robert Larsen of Castle Dale, and Loren and Kristin Brinkerhoff of Syracuse, 43 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vern and Cal, sister Mae and grandson Dusty Sorensen.
Funeral services were held Sat. May 14, 2005 at noon in the Huntington LDS Stake Center. Viewings were held the previous evening and prior to services at the church. Interment in the Huntington Cemetery.
