Rabbit Show
The rabbit show, which will be held at the Ferron Fairgrounds during the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock show, on July 8, will begin at 5 p.m. Come out and show your pet or your purebred rabbits. This will be a lot of fun.

U of U Invites Nominations of Veterans
The University of Utah will host its eighth annual Veteran’s Day Commemoration Program on Nov. 11. honoring all Utah veterans who have served our country in military service. Historical Society
The Emery County Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting on June 16 at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale. Nancy Taniguchi will be the special guest and she will be talking about her book Castle Valey America: Hard Land, Hard Won Home. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be served.

Green River Soil Conservation District Seeking Local Input
The local Green River Soil Conservation District (SCD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Natural Resources Conservation Service-NRCS) is seeking input from all citizens, organizations and government agencies about resource concern issues. The resource concerns of most interest to the SCD are soil, water, air, plant, animal and human issues. There may be other resource concern issues as well and public input is requested.
The Green River Soil Conservation District consists of five locally elected citizens charged with focusing attention on all resource concerns within its jurisdiction. The purpose of the SCD is to “focus attention on land, water, and related resource problems; develop programs to solve those problems; and, enlist the cooperation of various public and private resource groups who can contribute to the accomplishments of the districts goals and plans.”
If you have concerns or would like to comment on local resources, please plan to attend a public meeting on June 17. The public meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Green River City Hall. Bean’s Retirement

Fair Exhibits
The home arts exhibits welcomes anyone interested in displaying their sewing, knitting, painting, quilting, canning, baked goods, stained glass, woodworking, metal art, photographs, needlepoint, gardening, etc. during the Emery County Fair, Aug. 4-6. Know Before You Go
An ATV permit class will be held June 17 at the old courthouse building in Castle Dale, beginning at 7 p.m. Remember, this class is to make youth ages 8-16 legal to drive on public lands. Women’s Cancer Screening
Southeastern Utah District Health Department will conduct a women’s cancer screening clinic at their office at 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale, June 10 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Screening will include clinical breast exam, pap test, pelvic exam, referral for free mammogram (if eligible). Great Summer at Castle Dale Library
All the action began June 1 at the Castle Dale Library. The theme for the summer programs at the libraries in Emery County is Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds. In keeping with that theme, the summer reading program, the schedule is: June 15-medieval life; June 22-knights; June 20-castles; July 6-royal read; July 13-magical mayhem; and the summer finale July 20-Hogwarts School. The reading club “Joust Read” began June 1, where readers can earn one Sickle (Hogwarts coin) to be used at the summer finale. A special young adult program, “Ye Knights of the Order of the Castle (Dale Library), for ages 8 and older, will be held on June 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m., July 5 and 20 at 1 p.m.
Green River Kid’s Cafe
The Green River Community Center announces the sponsorship of the summer food service program. Free meals will be available to attending children. Meals will be served at the Green River Community Center in the Kid’s Cafe Monday-Friday. Morning snack-8:45-9 a.m.; lunch-12-12:30 p.m. (both through the summer food program); and dinner (through the Utah Food Bank) from 4-4:30 p.m.
Amateur Golf Tournament
The first annual Emery County Recreation/Millsite Men’s Association amateur 4 man scramble will be held June 25. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Register at Emery Recreation office at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, by June 23. Each team can only have on member with a handicap of 10 or less. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, two par three contests, membership, lunch, drinks on the course, prizes, and a tee gift. Coloring Contest
The Utah Summer Games sponsors a children’s coloring contest. You can download coloring pages at www.utahsummergames.org. Completed pages should be mailed to Utah Summer Games, 351 West University Blvd., Cedar City, UT 84720. On the back of the page parents should legibly write the child’s name, age, birthdate, telephone number and mailing address. State Fair Music Competition
Musicians are being sought for the annual Classical Music Competition to be held during August at the Utah State Fairpark. Classical music students from ages 8-23 are encouraged to participate. North Emery Reunion
The North Emery High Reunion will be held July 2 at Huntington Elementary School, 70 East 100 North. There is still room for vendors at Emery Town’s annual Pioneer Day celebration, which will be held on July 23. Veterans of Foreign Wars
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Project ChildSafe
Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
