On June 8-9 the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue participated in a search in Little Wild Horse Canyon for missing hikers. The group became separated from the rest of their family and did not arrive at the intended meeting place. Four adults and six children ranging from ages 6-17 were in the group. The group apparently made a wrong turn and entered and hiked into Bell Canyon. They spent the night in Bell Canyon and began hiking back out the following morning unharmed.
Sheriff Lamar Guymon said, “We searched with fixed wing aircraft until dark on Wednesday and conducted a ground search throughout the night. A Utah Department of Public Safety Transportation helicopter joined the search Thursday morning. Our ground crews located the group walking back out on Thursday morning at approximately 10 a.m. They were in good condition other than they were hungry, cold and thirsty. They had only enough provisions for a one day excursion. They were reunited with their other family members and returned to Salt Lake.”
