Letter to the Editor: European Union of the Americas

Dear Editor,
NAFTA + FTAA + CAFTA= European Union of the Americas
I know- most of us don’t want to be negative, and we are tired of hearing about all these conspiracy stories, etc. I love to be positive and be around those who are also but once in awhile I have to just say something in the hope that someone else will see what I see. I have been very concerned about all the good jobs that are disappearing around these days, ie. Geneva Steel, oil refineries, customer service for Hewlett Packard, etc. I looked into it and found that over 1 million jobs have been moved from American soil to foreign soil because the wages are cheaper, etc… I couldn’t see where that saves anyone as these jobs are there and we are here, paying taxes, being unemployed, etc. That seems to cost us alot more. But then I spoke to some companies and they are looking to make a profit and lower wages help them do that and also help them compete in the global market. Wow, that blew me away. We have people without work, an appearance of a strong economy, people are saying they have more spending freedom than ever before, more social programs, etc. What is wrong with this picture?
NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), FTAA(Free Trade Area of the Americas) , CAFTA (Central American Free Trade Agreement) all say they are here to help Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America to become “brothers” in the world economy and work together to bring more economic wealth to everyone. After some research I have found that isn’t what is happening. The intent of these agreements is to get America to give away its strength and sovereignty to the World Trade Organization and penalize us for what we do. Our decisions will no longer be up to our Congress, it will be transferred to global agencies and courts to determine our economic, social, and planning laws.
We can get out of NAFTA this year. FTAA is being considered for passage next year. CAFTA is in Congress right now and they want it to pass in June. We must write to our Congressmen and say No. Please study this and make your own mind up…but it is clear…these laws must not pass. Please help us by writing and talking to all those you know to write also. Our country’s southern boarder and our sovereignty is at stake right now.
