School board member, Rue Ware, Superintendent Kirk Sitterud and JJ Grant, director of secondary education, tour the student built home.

Recently the Emery High construction class, under the direction of Jim Keele and Gordon Card, held an open house for the seventh home completed by the classes at the school.
“More than 200 students have benefited from this class and the experiences gained during the construction of these homes. Many are working in the construction field and are doing well. The school district is lucky to have Jim Keele and Gordon Card to help prepare our students for the future,” said Ed Clark, Emery School District’s vocational supervisor.
Keele said, “I am grateful for the help and support of the district, and the businesses in the county, like Magnuson Lumber, who have helped us each year.”

Members of the school board, district office, parents, students and neighbors were on hand for the ribbon cutting. The home is located at 125 East 920 North in Castle Dale. It is 1,376 square feet with a two car attached garage. More information is available at the site.
The construction class at the high school, in conjunction with the Utah Housing Corporation, construct a home, then sell it on the open market. The experience and knowledge gained by the students gives them a jump start on their future.
